I purchased a 2nd month after 30+ days. After 60 days, mine did not unlock. However, did chat session for 'Account update' and asked to unlock. Supported created a ticket and by the end of the call my phone was unlocked. The hassle of this was just not worth the pain, but at the end of the day, I got the unlocked 16e for $399.96 in total. Not worth it to me.
I didn't see this message yesterday, but I basically did the same thing, except I called in. Told the rep I was going out of the country, and if it were possible to unlock the phone before the 1st of June. They went ahead and did it. Note, I had already paid for the 2nd full month, it was my first time calling, and had about 18 days to go until I reached 60 days of full service. I did not mention any of this with the rep as well, or about their policy, just asked them if I could get it unlocked a bit earlier due to an overseas trip where I need the 2nd esim for an overseas plan. And yeah, this was not as slick of a deal as we all thought when we got in, I even had a feeling when doing it that this may happen, but still took the risk, lol.

DP: Called back their FCC dispute line and recorded the call (fully legal because they say at the beginning they may record, so two way consent is established). Agent told me phone will unlock one day after my second month plan expires (I bought the second month plan AFTER 60 days from activation). Agent also confirmed there is no need to purchase a third month.
I will hold them to their word or use this as evidence against them if it does not unlock after the second month is over.
For anyone else trying to make lemonade out of lemons, check your Chase offers for 25% off. Makes an unslick situation slightly slicker.

I jumped on this deal before the new unlock policy, so the phone was supposed to unlock automatically on May 16th but did not. I waited until May 19th to check again and it still wasn't unlocked. Sucked it up and renewed with the Bronze plan, and the next day the phone was unlocked, "No SIM restrictions."

I will probably port this number over to Metro to get an iPhone 13 and trade it in for an Apple gift card.

Thanks for the tip. Just did a chat and was called by the chat rep. He said it'd take up to 2 business days to send an unlock code to my email address but after the call I'm seeing No SIM restrictions. I added the second month plan on 5/17 and it still hadn't unlocked as of today (5/22). Activated the phone on 3/17.

Thank you so much for the information. This worked for me 😁!
  • Activated 3/7
  • Reactivated on 5/15 with the Bronze Plan (After 60 days of initial activation)
  • Today 5/22, I chatted support and asked if they could unlock the phone for an overseas trip.
The rep told me that it could take up to 2 business days to unlock. After the chat was done, I restarted the phone and it says no sim restrictions.
I didn't file any FCC complaints or contact Straight Talk about the unlock policy change.
Thanks again for your help!

Activated early march, unlock denied, CSR just kept re-reading the 4/1 unlocking policy that retroactively applied to my purchase. Was hung up on when I asked to speak to the supervisor. Filed with FCC.
As an update to my previous post:

Received ST callback regarding FCC filing, they didn't budge. The rep seemed pretty beaten up about it too, since it's really out of their hands except to toe the company line.
I ended up doing a chargeback with Bank of America for the full amount of phone + service. This morning, saw an email that the merchant's bank was reviewing the chargeback, and just now got the full amount refunded (including 1month of service). Pretty sure the merchant's bank is just fast tracking charge backs at this point.

I wonder if Straight Talk has some sort of system in place to blacklist your account so that you can't use them again? If not, I'm wondering if this is a good, easy way to effectively pay $35 for an additional 2nd month (fulfilling their 60 day requirement) for an unlocked new iPhone 16e after getting the chargeback ruled in your favor??
Also, what category did you claim for the chargeback? Any other details?

Damn. This is it right here. Get on this advice before they find out the loophole.

3/5 - Activated 1st month
3/20 - Ported out
5/5 - Paid for 2nd month and got new # after reading this thread about needing a 2nd month.
5/6 - Phone did not unlock.
5/11 - Phone did not unlock. Filed FCC and BBB complaint. Many calls and many emails later, they still refused to unlock the phone.

5/22 (Today) - Asked over chat about unlocking to go overseas. She asked for IMEI and phone number to check if it qualifies. I expected no but she said "yup". Unlock was almost immediate after giving my info. Sickw shows unlocked. I don't have the phone with me to check but I can't imagine it isn't after sickw has shown locked for the past 2 weeks.

ST Chat rep > FCC/BBB complaint.

I'm following this. Also have a chargeback pending. While I'm prepared to have the phone blacklisted it would be nice to get an unlocked 16e for $35 in the end. And I'd feel 100% justified after what ST did throughout this maddening process

I don't recall selecting a category for the claim, but BofA did ask me to upload additional documents and I just uploaded my original order receipt.
I had previously spoken with someone from the unlocking department and was told only the credit card gets black listed from future ST charges, not sure about the phone's IMEI.
