As an update to my previous post:

Received ST callback regarding FCC filing, they didn't budge. The rep seemed pretty beaten up about it too, since it's really out of their hands except to toe the company line.
I ended up doing a chargeback with Bank of America for the full amount of phone + service. This morning, saw an email that the merchant's bank was reviewing the chargeback, and just now got the full amount refunded (including 1month of service). Pretty sure the merchant's bank is just fast tracking charge backs at this point.
You probably just got a pending credit while they investigate. If merchant provides support and Bofa sides with them, you'll get the credit taken away. If you got a letter that closed the case and finalized the credit then you're good.

I'm following this. Also have a chargeback pending. While I'm prepared to have the phone blacklisted it would be nice to get an unlocked 16e for $35 in the end. And I'd feel 100% justified after what ST did throughout this maddening process
Yeah I'd be okay with a blacklisted phone (pretty certain it could still be used on the Verizon network?) for free, but an unlocked phone for $35 would be ideal. I'm still waiting to hear back from some class action law firms but so far only two have responded in the negative. I'm leaning towards going to small claims court and arguing I was forced to buy a unlocked phone in the meantime. I had initially purchased an Amazon renewed 1tb iphone 16 Pro Max but according to some AI 'legal' advice that was excessive so I found a $600ish renewed 15 Pro which I think a court would see as similar to a brand new, new generation 16e. If I could get the 15 Pro covered in small claims, then chargeback the 16e I'd feel that would adequately compensate me for my time and effort that I've currently invested as well as what I'm going to have to invest going forward.

But only for those who paid for the second month. The folks who refused to purchase a second month are still stuck with locked phones as of right now from my experience and what I have read here and on Reddit.

Thank you. Chatted with them. Chat rep was super slow and then said it would unlock in 3-5 days. It was still showing locked online (phone was at home and I was at work) when I ended the chat. When I got home I restarted the phone and checked and no more SIM lock.

Just glad this is done. I wasn't confident it was even going to unlock after the 2nd month was done. Now I know it is good to go and I can swap them to my normal phone plan.

So you too, did pay for the second month? If this is case did you let the phone become active after month 1?

Is anyone contacting the Unlock Department when requesting an unlock for international travel? I'm having a hard time reaching a chat representative on the website.

I think you want to avoid contacting the unlock department directly. They are probably very aware of the situation. I just chatted a normal rep about my account. They are fully capable of unlocking phones. It's not like it requires any higher access. That's why when they return your BBB/FCC complaint and say their hands are tied because the system won't let them unlock your phone, they're lying.

After waiting nearly 40 minutes for a chat representative, the overseas method worked instantly for me. I'm a second month purchaser.

This was my phone scenario #1. Did the same as others initially. Activate. 1 month of service. Let it go past 60 days. No unlock. Eventually decided to buy 2nd month. Didn't unlock. They said it has to complete the full 60 days of paid service.

My phone #2 I bought the 2nd month before the 60 days because of what didn't happen with #1 and it unlocked on day 61.

I honestly didn't trust them that #1 would actually unlock after the 2nd paid month (I also had activation issues, that phone is in NO account I have access to). They have alrwsdy shown they can move the goal post anytime they want. So when I saw this I jumped on it. I had already paid. I just wanted a guarantee it was happening.

Am I mad I had to buy an extra month for each phone. Sure. But the amount of time and effort people are putting into the fcc and bbb and anything else. It isn't worth my time. I know they'd say if we all fight it we'll win. Im a scab. I paid and I am not putting forth the effort to fight for what it was supposed to be. I don't have the time and energy right now. I got 2 phones at a discount and they are getting swapped to my main phone plan asap.

For scenario #1, how exactly did you go about paying for the second month? Did you call, chat or do so online? Thanks!

Adding a data point for folks.
- Phone activated 3/17
- did not pay second month and waited for unlock
- did not unlock on 5/18
- tried to add 2nd month online, couldn't do it
- had to chat online and was asked for phone number, though my plan had already expired, the expired phone number was needed and worked
- added 2nd month (bronze) through chat on 5/21
- asked chat to unlock since paid 2nd month (on the same chat while paying for 2nd month service), was told didn't qualify until 6/20 when phone had 60 days of paid service
- phone unlocked automatically today 5/22

Pretty sure I did that through text to generate a way to pay for it. Then it failed to process a lot and eventually went through. I had no account to easily do it through.

Phone 2 that activated so easily and everything else also let me get a $5 discount when I added the 2nd month before the 60 days were up.

thanks, I am in the same boat, indeed, same day. I activated on 03/15. will add bronze plan tonight.
Reporting back for other's info, I purchased a bronze plan last night for $39 with 25% chase offer. Today, it's unlocked automatically. I activated on 03/15, didn't purchase 2nd month.
