I have this drive. Bought it 3 years ago and haven't had any problems with it. Not real hard to flash it to the WH16NS60 firmware. I use DVDFab PlayerFab to watch 4K discs on my PC.

Yes and yes. The $50 price point is usually the lowest price it hits in the last few years. It usually sells for about $60. And as the OP pointed out, this drive reads 4k UHD disks, and, as far as I know, it is the cheapest drive to have that capability. It is very well regarded by disc rippers.

Fwiw, blu ray consortium still taking royalties from pc recorders and media... and giving it to the mpaa/riaa orgs. Crazy.. after almost 20y figured things would change. Pc industry needs to make PURE DATA RECORDING optical media with no backward compatibility to cdr, dvd, blu ray. Jettison the whole group so NO royalties go anywhere. Then media prices can drop. Need at least 500gb media to start.

Good deal on a UHD-friendly drive (must run firmware patch but it's pretty straightforward). I wouldn't even consider buying a non UHD-friendly Blu-Ray drive in 2025.

Tried Player fab but says DVDfab does not support your drive even though it shows as WH16NS60 in device manager?

Good drive. I've burned about 50 MDISK blurays with no defects. I use a sata dongle to usb so it is portable.

Lightscribe took forever to write, but they looked great when finished. I used to do audio recordings for orchestras, bands, etc. and Lightscribe was the way to go to get the info on the disk. Those who used labels regretted it later.

Does this have any issues reading or playing back Dolby Vision or HDR10 like Xbox or PS5 do?

hell yea. in the post mp3 era, i got big into lossless audio and would burn any CD with lightscribe labels cause i hated the hand written stuff.
