Not sure how much these are but from one review: "Swapped out the 4 AAA alkaline for the single Li ion 26500. Four times the run time with steady brightness on a single charge. A 25500 Rechargeable battery should fit well too."
Best of all, the 26500 won't leak & corrode like the junk HF AAA's.
The li-ion batteries these flashlights use are often similar to those used for RC hobbyists, so while you can't recharge them with the usual chargers (since they're the diameter of 3 AAAs taped together in a triangular configuration), you can find these chargers everywhere for cheap [18650batterystore.com]. I got a few flashlights similar to this a long time ago because they were bundled the 18650 lithium ion batteries (which supposedly fit [reddit.com] in these flashlights also with some modification) and I'd never go back to disposable batteries for flashlights at this point. The batteries are actually the expensive part, so I only pull the trigger on these deals when they come bundled with 18650s (or equivalent).

In 2025 this version of flashlight with this configuration of batteries should be no more than $1 and of course $1.25 at Dollar Tree. Flashlights have come a long way since the maglite days and there are a plethora of options at very affordable prices with superior battery options.

It's a closeout sale. That usually means they sell until the store runs out. Popular closeout items often disappear from some stores pretty quick and become harder to find after a while. For instance, there was a small tire inflator that went on sale for $4.99 months ago, but most stores sold out fairly quickly and it was practically impossible to find in stock.

Edit: One store near me was already sold out of these lights, but another one still had some. I doubt these will last very long at this price.

Unlike most flashlights, this one is tactical. When tactics are required, there's only one solution.

$20 battery in a $3 light? Okay then…
Nobody posted a deal on the 26500 or suggested someone run out to buy one, that was information on the compatibility function of the same $3 light posted here. If you had a more expensive light or any other device that already uses one of those batteries, maybe that device no longer works even, then in that situation you can use the battery without spending more money on a higher end flashlight as just one example. Maybe someone will be happy using regular batteries and never deal with that, all this information says is you CAN if you want to.

If there are objections about the cost of (potentially) buying other things like a battery or a charger, consider that some other people already have them so that's not an issue for some and you're not the only one who can look up prices on additional accessories. The comments section is often used to provide additional information, not posted by the OP or anyone trying to sell you on an item and the information is free.

The forward voltage of a white LED (3-3.6V0 is higher than the voltage of 1 AAA, AA, C or D battery. They would need to have a boost converter in there, increasing costs.

Anytime they have more than one battery, like 3 or more, expect that they're just using a dropping resistor to limit the current.

Pass for me as I too like a single AA, or something that can use 18650 cells.
I bet a lot of people wouldn't have read your explanation with comprehension or qualified that in any way other than X costs this much. I'm curious though whether you like those that can take either AA or 14500s.

Thanks, was gonna buy and use for non-tactical purposes, but that'd be a severe your in judgement

I picked one of these up today. Note that an18650 battery will work, but it's a very tight fit lengthwise. You really need to push the cap hard, which makes threading it a little awkward. And of course, I had to add another layer of plastic and electrical tape to my homemade spacer tube to account for the extra width. But I already have a bunch or 18650s around and they're pretty cheap when you find a sale, so that works best for me.

A couple of differences that I noticed from the similar 3xAAA / Atomic Beam style …

1. The shorter battery tube, as mentioned above. (The 3x model has more of a protruding nub with a little more length to the battery compartment

2. The zoom action is a bit stiffer and isn't as smooth on these (it has a more noticeable ribbed motion)

3. There's no wrist lanyard or hole for one like on those models.

And no, I'm not complaining about a $3 light … just mentioning a few differences from that other popular clone model since a lot of people may be familiar with it.

Edit: It looks like there's now another Amazon deal for that other common clone variant at two for $6 …

They also had a headlamp on clearance for $0.79. It's similar to what Dollar Tree has at times, so it's not a huge deal but hard to beat for under a buck if you only occasionally use something like that.

These things fly through batteries unless you're going to replace the batteries with rechargeables but that's an added cost. Ever since buying a Wurkkos rechargeable flashlight I won't go back to these. The performance is much better too.

My current lights only can take a single AA, and other lights that take a single 18650. 18650's are plentiful as I'm using reclaimed ones from laptop packs. I don't have a problem using an unprotected 18650 in lights that only take one cell. Those lights will not over discharge the battery.

I have not bought any 14500's since I find the single AA's last a long time with modern LSD NiMHs

I do own a few of those Olight flashlights that have an integrated rechargeable Li battery and charger port. They go on sale a few times a year for ~ $5 shipped.

Is it double spring by chance? (tailcap spring and driver spring?)

I have similar light with no zoom function. Much older. I switched to 18650, it was tight. I feel the switch failed because of the tight fit. The switch housing innards are all plastic. I feel like, if i remove it the whole thing will be destroyed.

I am curious, what the switch housing looks like in the current version?

Yes … spring-loaded at both ends. The one on the tail cap is covered with a solid metal nub though.

It looks pretty sturdy, but I haven't dug into it. I added a few pics to my last comment just above this one.

If looking to use18650 batteries, I'd say the model Amazon is selling at two for $6 would probably be a better fit. That one has a different design with a slightly longer battery tube. Also, I popped in an unprotected 18650 when testing this one, so it might be even tighter with a protected cell … I think those are usually a tad longer.
