I alternated between the 2s and the 3. Six of one... My recollection is the 2s is/feels wider and the 3 is/feels taller, but it's not a dramatic difference.

I have the Master MX 2S and the 3S both; in fact two of each. I used to use the 2S and liked it so much, I bought one for work. Then few years later upgraded to 3S at home, and at some point changed jobs, and my new company bought me the 3S at work.

Some thoughts -
1. The 3S is definitely quieter in its clicks but the 2S clicks are not something that'll bother someone.
2. Ergonomically they are the about he same. And buttons etc are not appreciably different.
3. USB-C on the 3S is a plus but you have to charge these quite infrequently so it's not as big a deal-breaker as some make it out to be.
4. The biggest problem with the 3S is that it uses the new Logitech Bolt dongle which is HORRIBLE. it is too prone to electrical interference if you plug it in the back of your monitor, your cursor will jump around so much the mouse is nigh unusable. It's comically bad. Just literally impossible to move to any button without overshooting it first. And somehow it's worse on Mac OS than on Windows. You have to use the dongle with a USB extension, and even then it's not a perfect experience. You just have to look at the multitude of reviews on Amazon. Of course, these problems go away if you use Bluetooth. So I'm using my work 3S permanently on Bluetooth. At home I would have preferred using the dongle since I use a KVM switch to move between my Mac and PC, but it's just unusable on Mac, so I have to press the button on the bottom to switch to Bluetooth. Just frustrating, cause otherwise it would've been a a perfect mouse. My keyboard also uses the bolt dongle so I'm continuing to use the mouse despite the major inconvenience.
4. There is no way to upgrade the firmware on the 3S mouse or the dongle (not sure if they released one recently). Edit — ignore this point. Seems that's outdated info. One can update the firmware now. There was no way for quite some time after its release.

Overall, the 2S is an excellent mouse and if you don't care about the bolt dongle of the 3S (the 2S uses the older unified dongle), I would recommend the 2S instead. It's cheaper and so much more reliable in its cursor motion.
But time logitec fan until I switched to macOS echo system 5 years ago. I don't know if it's the age or real convenience .. using a separate dongle became a big issue for me. So went with apple keyboard and track pad … now I am locked in. Change feels hard

Are you talking about free scrolling? The MX Master can do that. You may need to configure a button to turn it on or off in the app, but it can absolutely do it. I have it mapped to my center button.
Oh wow. I learned something new. That makes this mouse a ton more appealing now.

I have 2 that I bought at this price a few years ago. Doesnt get much cheaper. Getting 2 more for a backup. I did this with the MX Mini keyboards as well and ended up using them in different locations in the house. The best productivity mouse on the market.

You dont have to use a separate dongle with these mice. Bluetooth works fine. Thats how the Apple peripherals connect too.

I refuse to buy any other mouse especially at this price point, even with the "outdated" micro-usb port. I probably charge this once every 2 months with daily use. This is such a great mouse both for utility and creative use.

Note: After a time of using the S2, if you ever encounter a problem wherein it stops responding all of a sudden, there's a stuck button underneath the rubber geometric housing that you can easily be remedied with a youtube or reddit guidance.

I did not know about this with my first mouse, but because I was adamant on not using a different kind, I bought the exact same one the same day I thought it was "dead" but still kept it in a drawer. After a few months of using the new one, I researched and brought the old one back from the dead. Now I have 2 of them lol with one going strong for about 5 years now.

but 3s clicking noise is muchhhhhhhhhhhh quieter, once you have 3s you cant really go back.....
Try using the scroll very quickly while doing CAD work. You will go right back to the 2S.

Had a 2S for 3 years before switching to the 3S. The silent clicks are honestly a huge benefit, especially when on Zoom calls.
Just tell everyone that you think there is a predator hunting you to explain the clicks. Extra points if you have a triangle laser pointer that you can deploy.

All of my M510 left click (index finger) buttons have all failed less than three months each. Bought quite a few from Amazon, Staples, Woot during deals. Prior to 2021 they lasted at least a year. Frustrating on the high defect rate. Will give this a try.

I just returned a 3S for the awful phantom scrolling and zooming issues. Does the 2S not have the same issue?
