Mechanical hard drives are still great for most storage. I have over 100 TB of storage, and I can't afford to buy all solid state drives for that. Keep your OS and games on an SSD, and store the rest of your files on a mechanical HD until the prices come way down on solid state storage.

I purchased two of this computer. Very nice workstation for the office. Make sure to check windows was installed on the SLOW 1TB drive and not installed on the FAST M.2 drive. I reinstalled Windows on the M.2 drive and it made a HUGE improvement in boot times and overall performance. Also with mixed 8gig 4gig sticks there will probably be some performance hits so I swapped and not have matching sticks in each computer.

If you just want to serve files, you can find old equipment people are literally giving away which will do the job. I have been running a 50 TB Plex server off a Pentium g3258 with 8 GB of DDR3. Can even hardware transcode 1080p content.

Cinebench generally favors Intel. Modern workloads are heavily multi threaded - browsing, games, etc. Workloads that would favor a 4 core Intel are extremely niche. They exist, but people who have those workloads are very well aware.
It is also worth noting that this machine can take a drop in processor upgrade to something faster and AM4 ryzen chips are dirt cheap on eBay.

I really hate that tower don't have open bays to add disc drives anymore. I have a need for a dvd writer and bluray still.

Even if SSD would come down more I would guess so would HDD so HDD would still be best just to store things, backups or not.

Regular HDD still works very well. I also see no need to jump on SSD for large storage its too expensive.

Ssds and HDDS have no similarities in how they are manufactured and what the costs are. If an SSD gets cheaper that does not necessarily impact the pricing of HDDS, which are largely divorced from the SSD market. HDDS are mostly used for speciality applications these days. NAS and stuff like that. Consumer desktops and laptops have been all non-HDD storage for a long time now. HDDs are slow as dirt and - except for the microscopic number of people who want to store 8tb locally - mostly useless in the PC.
