Entire first page of comments is 1 star reviews about drive failures in less than a year and being asked to ship it back to China. Let's look at the review titles..

They Want me to send it to China
Failed after 2 weeks
worked for a year
cheap yet over priced
You get what you pay for
failed after only about a year
Died
SSD Bricked After 6 months
Unfortunate
Already dead
Junk
Drive Died After 8 Months
Failed in 4.5 months
Great Price but Terrible Proformance ("It lasted for about a month and completely died")
Failed in 6 months
Cheap, on all aspect
Works good until it doesn't
Files became corrupted over a few weeks
Wont let me install windows os
Waste of money
Unreliable, died after a few months
Junk
Failed after 3 months
Died after a week of service

Why would you recommend this like it's a reasonable alternative? It isn't just slower, it's a piece of crap.

The HP FX900 has the atrocious InnoGrit IG5236 controller which is known to brick SSDs.

i finally got around to installing the 2TB 990 evo plus that's supposed to replace my 2TB FireCuda 520. i think i'm going to go back to the FireCuda. it's much snappier and feels faster overall. Crystaldiskmark confirmed my suspicions. 4kQD1 writes are half of what the FireCuda can put out. likely that lack of dram cache is the culprit. I am not impressed with this drive. i should have waited for a 990 pro deal.
"Feels faster"? Only time I ever "felt" anything is going from a sata HDD to sata SSD. Everything above that is hardly "felt"..

The top comments listed on the mobile version makes it look as though you're stating these are reviews for this product, and not the HP product. I had to double check the reviews on this item to make sure that I didn't have to return anything.

Is this specific drive one that can go in the PS5 SSD expansion slot?

While many laptops run hot, 990 EVO plus has a normal operating range to 160 degree F. These drives are designed to run very hot and not impact it's lifespan significantly. There's also nothing special about the 4tb size that makes its cooling any more challenging than smaller capacities.
I mistyped I meant I "dont"have experience with that ssd but my statement still stands. Ive seen plenty of posts and reviews of the Samsung 4tb failing. As far as your statement about running hot that is false. Stating that shows you have no experience with electronics. I went to school for electronics for a year. Ive done my share of repairing and rebuilding boards. Overheating kills electronics. Most servers are air conditioned. Cpus and quality gpus are air or water cooled. People can give me thumbs down all they want. If they were for my mistype of not adding 'don't' regarding this particular ssd then that is my mistake. If thumbs down about overheating then that is their lack of knowledge. I cant tell you how many people have complained about cellphones running hot and some even failing and they blame the manufacturer when in reality its their own fault because they don't have a clue about backgrounds apps being the cause pushing the cpu in overdrive.
Edit... '''most''' 4tb ssd has chips on both sides which creates more heat but even single side creates more heat than most laptops are built to handle. Believing it is made to run much hotter without problems is completely false. It not only causes the m2 ssd to run hotter it causes the entire board to run hotter. It can literally fry a laptop motherboard if it gets to hot. Your ssd may run for a while but if you don't take steps to keep it cool it wont have even have a quarter of the lifespan it should. Its not as much of an issue in a desktop because you can add fans.

This guy sounds pretty delusional, the controller is what gets hot on SSDs, not the NAND size. The main culprits for overheating are the PCIE5 , but most laptops just go up to PCIE4 which is why the Samsung 9 series supports hybrid 4x4 or 2x5 lanes. I just doesn't heat up that much because the transfers are not that fast.
I'm delusional? Sorry but you need to point that statement at yourself. I suggest you buy an infrared thermometer and use it on a 1tb m2 ssd, a 2tb m2 ssd, and a 4tb ssd all on the same board or in the same laptop and check the temperature differences. You will notice a huge difference with m2 4tb. Also if you simply Google "does m2 ssd memory get hot" you will find your answer. You should also Google "can m2 ssd overheat". Most 4tb m2 ssd has chips on both sides. Its common sense the more chips or more powerful on a memory board runs hotter. They are designed to run hot to a point but in an enclosed laptop without proper cooling they will overheat more often than not if you don't takes steps to cool 4tb.
Heat is the #1 cause of all electronics failing. Design plays a major factor sure (that's where quality comes in. You get what you pay for) but a chip doesn't generally fail due to age it fails due to heat. As far as quality a lot of that has to do with the metals being used. Do you remember a few years back when there was a new vehicle shortage. All that had to do with not being able to acquire the rare earth metals they needed for the electronics in the vehicles. Cheap metals generate a lot more heat. If a memory chip is failing its almost always due to heat even if its quality. Years of heat causes chips to degrade it over time. A junk cheap memory chip not only isn't as fast but the metals used to make it likely aren't as good which will lead it to die from heat much faster.

Have you ever done a re-flow on a board to get a failed chip working again? Sometimes its as simple as a re-flow to reconnect solder points. This is all common sense to anyone knowledgeable with electronics. Sure a controller can fail too so you're statement is half right but that's like saying a gpu or cpu can't overheat and fry and only the controller can. I've wired many vehicles as well as rewired my car completely after a 20 minute fire in the engine block burned up everything but solid steel, repaired and rebuilt, pads, phones, laptops, game consoles, tvs, and amplifiers. Where is your knowledge from?

Many do not. In fact, the 4TB Samsung 990 EVO Plus is single-sided. Source [tomshardware.com]

Pulled the trigger on one for my OWC Express 1M2. I have an old 512GB HP drive in there but now that Crossover runs most games pretty well, I need some more storage for games. It's supposed to be here tomorrow so reply if you have any questions you want me to answer.

This 4TB drive from Nextorage is a better drive than the 990 Evo for the same price. I just picked one up and it sipping only 6 watts versus the typical 9 watts for a gen4 nvme drive, meaning it barely gets hot at all. I'm getting 6 GB/s write and 5 GB/s read speeds
