It is 60 days from activation. Once you get the phone activate it and after that send text to 611611 asking "unlock" it should come back with date. Did iphone 13 in Nov last year.

Look at the unlocking policy, as of April 1st, we need 60 days of paid service to unlock. Just like total wireless

Damn. I bought it last week on the 3rd. Am I SOL? I don't want to pay another $50 to unlock it.

Looks like it is 60 days of paid service. I think at $100 it is still a good deal.

The deal just got a lot worse. I would not have jumped in had I know the change.

Now for damage control. I can drop the plan to $35 next month. It says 60 days of active service, I don't have to use $55 plan.

Or I can just write it off and use the phone as Wi-Fi only. Take my chance that they didn't update their system and try to unlock it after 60 days. In theory, I could potentially reactivate the phone using an eSIM from StraightTalk and get another 30 days of service. But there is a chance that they don't honor that 30 + 30 = 60.

that's because Total Wireless, Straight Talk and Tracfone are all brands owned by Verizon. They've all had the same unlock policy for years, Verizon just changed the policy.

I bought this phone in Feb, well before the new April 1 unlock policy. Today (4/8) is day 61 since I activated. I paid for 1 month service, that's all. The phone did not unlock automatically. I put a call into the unlocking department and was told my phone is eligible to unlock; I needed to power it off/on and "it may take a couple of hours" which I was skeptical of. However I did do the power on/off--still locked (dialed #TFUNLOCK#). I tried something I read on Reddit, though: "Use your phone's hotspot and connect the Moto Power to the hotspot. Keep connected and restart and reconnect.
My phone is unlocked now." and that worked! Don't know if it was just coincidence because of my earlier call OR if that actually did something, but can report that at least in my case, unlocking was not automatic nor straightforward.

How sure are you that we can drop down to a lower plan and still have the 60 days? Have you checked with customer service?

The $55 plan is only a requirement to get the phone for free. Nothing in the Unlock Policy mention anything about service plan price. It just needs 60 days of service. There is no reason for them to deny.

Reactivating to continue another 30 days could be tricky. I can't even trust customer service to have the authority to answer that. So there is no point of asking.

Nonsense. It works fine on Cricket (At&t mvno).
That was my last question. I haven't gotten a new phone on cricket since they had that stupid "only these few byo phones" thing a few years back.
So if I pick thus up, I can park it in a drawer for 60 days then just unlock and simswap it over to my cricket line?

Before you connect to another phone's hotspot, was your Power connected to Wi-Fi?

If yes, what is your working phone's provider?

I just ran the IMEI of the Power on the Cricket IMEI checker. It passed. See photo..

Wow that's a big change with the April 1 policy.
I'm set to fully unlock according to the original policy in 4 days, I'll check back in then.

Can someone confirm that I can use the SIM card on another phone while still be able to unlock it after 60 days?

sim is linked to IMEI of phone. It's not recommended - especially now that they've changed unlock requirements.
