I called in today for a device I purchased in February, yes, at least from the agent I spoke to this morning, they are enforcing it right away. Classic bait and switch from Total Wireless
It's not up to Total Wireless or Tracfone or Straight Talk - it's Verizon - they own the brand & made the change.

Wow. They are imposing the policy, retroactively, on phones purchased before Apr 1, 2025?
Is that even legal?

Well, the new unlocking policy is a bummer, but still better than the other carriers. And for what it's worth, I activated 2 Total Wireless Edges on Feb 3rd, and they automatically unlocked on April 4th after having just 1 month of service. So I think it's possible that it won't apply to phones activated before April 1st 2025. But, who knows for sure?

Good data point. Would be nice if those of us who activated prior to the policy change could still get by with just one month of service. Seems fair if those were the terms at the time.

Can they really impose a new policy retroactively? It seems illegal and wrong. I wonder if I can cancel/return the Edge I will be getting in a day or so? I will try contacting them.
they don't normally do cancellations and usually service plans are not refunded, so since phone was free with plan purchase there's not much point.

This might be a dumb question, but can one of these phones be used on Verizon regular service, without being unlocked? I have one from Total Wireless and one from Straight Talk. And would they work on a Verizon MVNO like US Mobile or Visible, again without being unlocked?

Maybe, according to Jetsisoverspending's post a couple of pages back.

Quote from Jetsisoverspending :

I'm a visible customer, I activated the phone with the supplied Total wireless sim...Calls worked and texts within minutes of port.

Shut the phone down, installed my visible sim...Had to restart phone twice. Phone works fine with visible sim installed, still shows carrier locked in settings but I guess Verizon is Verizon.
Super slick if nothing weird happens with using that sim.

Answered my own question about MVNOs. My US Mobile Sim doesn't work even though it runs on Verizon towers. I don't have access to a Verizon sim, so will have to hold off on that test. Maybe I can try the Visible 15 day trial esim option.

So the cost of this deal is now $110 - For 2 months of service? And the $55 is dead? Is this correct?

PSA: Looks like total wireless changed the policy from 60 days after activation to 60 days of active service. This went in to effect April 1st 2025.tfwunlockpolicy.com
Appears the unlocking policy with StraightTalk remains the same 60 days from activation.

Yes, if you want a unlocked phone in two months! Unfortunate, but this change was posted yesterday and impacting all phone purchases beginning April 1 which is weird. They should have published a later date which is legal. Posting a condition impacting clients who has bought phones a week earlier is against FCC policies

You could get a cheaper plan for the 2nd month, requirement is an active plan for 60 days - not a specific plan.

About phone, device details. Or #TFUNLOCK# from dialer.
Or, of course, just insert a SIM from another carrier (active or inactive)
