This line of Ultimate comics are wonderful. Spider-Man is particularly good (as is the new Wolverine). Start with Ultimate Invasion (4 issues) if you want the full picture, but jumping straight into this should be fine enough.

The long and short of it (forgive me if my summary isn't 100% on the nose) is that Maker (an "evil" version of Reed Richards/Mr Fantastic from Earth-1610) escapes captivity in Earth-616 (the primary Marvel universe) and goes to another universe, Earth-6160, and manipulates things to prevent super heroes from forming (such as preventing Peter from being bitten, etc), so he can basically rule with his super villain oligarchs.

Art and writing are great. Lots of good characters and subversions. Tons of fun.

This one is pretty good!

In the "main" comics, Peter is trying to get back with Mary Jane (because the devil deleted their memories of their marriage) but she's with some Chad named Paul.

This new Ultimate series imagines Peter and MJ still married, raising a kid- and still doing the Spider-Man thing. I greatly prefer it to the main series right now.

DISCLAIMER: I've only read the issues contained in this TPB. If they've ruined it since issue 6, I'll be sad, but at the moment am blissfully unaware.

For a moment, I thought this was some bizarre Peter Parker / Al Bundy crossover based on the deal title

I agree, due to no small part to the writing of Jonathan Hickman. He's phenomenal no matter which property he tackles.
