These are good lanterns. And I do not know if they still have them. But didn't/doesn't Costco carry these in store for $8 for a pack of 3?
Again...maybe they do not anymore... but I know that they used to.

Anything lantern/flashlight without a rechargeable or a 18650 battery is useless these days and a USB-C charging port is a must.

I bought 3 pack of these lanterns years back. overall built quality is solid but unless they improved the design, the the battery cage breaks easily. They were all broken after couple of battery replacements

I have this from Costco few years back. overall it is ok. concept and functionality are good.
I purchased 4 packs of 3-units pack, total of 12.
4 out of 12 suffered battery leak - gone.
5 out of 8 survived unit have loose rubber bracket that should have kept the unit closed but causing the unit extended while they are hung.
I won't buy them again

Really ... useless? How on earth did people see before the advent of rechargeable batteries? BTW: a 18650 *is* a rechargeable battery.

You're missing my point. To the extent that flashlights and lanterns from an era when only single use batteries were available most definitely offered quite a bit of utility, saying they are "useless" today is a sweeping overstatement. It also presumes that all use cases are the same as that poster's - that everyone will be using these devices at times and places where continuous access to grid power is instantly available.

This is the same topic - "These days" lighting solutions powered by disposable batteries are far from "useless".

I mean those who have this continuous access don't need camping lanterns at all, they just plug in a table lamp, no?

Modern camping lanterns with capable batteries last for several days. So you are referring to those of us who live months in the outback/bush/jungle without electricity? OK.

Anyway, you are probably right and I'll leave it at that.
