total wireless version unlocks 60 days after activation, $55/month plan, and requires ID verification by sending in selfie and photo of ID to 3rd party.
metro version unlocks 365 days after activation (potentially 180 days) and $75/month plan
Both only require paying for the first month then waiting out unlock timer. Moto only guarantees 2 years of updates for their mid tier phones and 1 year has already passed on the moto stylus. If you care about unlocking bootloader or rooting device then go with the metro version.
