Yeeeeeah, every time I have to go in the evening I realize this but it is so freaking loud in there unless I go super early that I can't concentrate! I have found though that if I can go at the tail end of the busy part of the day but before the majority of cashiers start going home and it gets too quiet this works well too. Days are so much louder now that the kiddos are out of school.

DD now thinks that because there is no doorknob on the door she has a license to get out of bed and come check on me

Of course this all had to happen on the one day that dh was finally able to work a few hrs. of OT.....he won't be home until 11 probably, and I have a feeling she'll still be up

Can you close the downstairs A/c vents and force the cold upstairs? This worked for me when I had a 2 story home. I bought magnetic vent covers from Bed, Bath and Beyond (always wondered what the hell they were beyond, but whatever.
