The picture is right there on the coupons.

Ask them, if it's not the starter kit, why does it have refills?
*sigh* Unfortunately, lately it seems we can't expect some store staff to use deductive reasoning. laugh out loud The policing coupons seems to be overactive in some stores, really lax in others. Wink

It may not say starter kit on the product but it DOES say it on the shelf tag. I've had a picture of the sinage on my phone for a while now. Wink

eta How do you handle people that criticize your stockpile? An acquintance was at my house Sunday, I watched her son while she did some errands. When she came back, I offered her some of my 8 yr old son's outgrown clothing (I can imagine how hard it is to be a single mom). After giving her 3 bags of clothing, including 20 pairs of Gymboree pants and shorts (some with tags still on them), more than 10 shirts etc, she commented that I need to have someone from "one of those TV shows" clean up my basement, and donate all that stuff to Goodwill etc. Excuse the heck out of me. I donate 100s of lbs of food to the food bank every year, an equal amount of stuff to the domestic violence shelter, boxes of new toys to Toys for Tots, as well as finding people I meet that could use some help, and give them the gently used kids clothing that in the past I would have sold on eBay. To be told I needed one of those clutter experts to "help" me. I wasn't expecting that.

I had invited her and her son to go to the movies with us this weekend. She would have to buy her own ticket but the child's ticket and part of concessions are paid courtesy of Kellogg's and Disney. Is it wrong for me to feel hurt by the comments? I surely wouldn't go into someone's home and criticize them for anything.
This would have hurt my feelings as well. I would have probably responded to her and told her it was that stockpile that enables you to give her free clothing and movie tickets for her children. Bet if you offered her some free SB, or PT or TP, she wouldn't mind taking some of your stockpile Smilie

Ugh. Head Bang

Went to my used to be favorite T. Took my last SB GC toupon with me. Spent almost an hour rounding up a cart full. Went up to the register and was informed that the bottle with the sprayer top was neither a starter kit nor the extend-a-clean. So I said, "Seriosly? I've bought this exact same thing using this exact same coupon in this very store several times." So dingbat goes and asks another cashier. Ugh. She said she wouldn't take it. So I told her to have a nice day putting all my stuff back on the shelves. Went to another T. They were out of SB. Mad But I found a Jedi and used other coupons to make that $5 Cool. I'm considering writing them a letter. Why would the company spend that much money putting out those $5 SB GC coupons, nationwide no less, and then not honor them?
It can vary so much from store to store or cashier to cashier. The SB deal was so publicized its possible that it was abused in that store and the cashiers put on alert by management. I've found when that happens, they are afraid to take even the right coupon sometimes.
Quote from iseethedead :
Finally had a horrible run at T today.

Went to use my sb $5gc q's and was told only 1 per transaction was allowed. Tried to read the coupon to them and tell them their own policy but was shut down by gstl and told that is there policy and so be it. Then he went through my bags and told me that they limit to family size quatities. I was buying 8, which is a lot for some people but not my house, but don't start making things up andpull shit out your ass because I am standing my ground.

Finally said that I would do 8 sep transactions after snide remarks. The person checking me out ended up doing them all on one transaction and guess what, they all scanned no beeps.

Came home flaming, mad not gay, and called corporate who were more than helpful giving me a $10 gc for my trouble. I told the lady that I have 3 bathrooms and that product only lasts for one cleaning in my house! God knows I wouldn't actually spend money on this product with how much I have to use but hey when I am making money I'll clean with q-tips if they are free!
On this one,if I'm reading your post correct, the store manager has the right to limit coupon use at his/her store. I wouldn't have called corporate, only for the reason that I feel I would be shooting myself in the foot for future trips in that store.
In any case, the store manager can limit quantities according to stock on hand or demand. He/she is probably ensuring there is enough stock for every customer. Now, if they denied a coupon for the right product or just flat out refused to take a coupon then thats a different story. But thats just my 2 cents.

The manager only mentioned the limit after I didn't take the bait for the whole, only 1 q per transaction, even though the coupon reads purchase and after I said I would do 8 separate transactions. I have no problem with limiting amounts, that wasn't the main issue. It was the attitude I got when I tried to tell them about their coupon policy.

As for shooting myself in the foot, corporate agreed with me! They can't make their own policy on how many q's they are going to accept. If it scans and is accepted they have to keep their mouth shut! Their own policy states that if the register accepts a coupon than it is legitimate and useable.

I used legitimate coupons correctly, that's all that matters.

Stores have the right to limit quantities purchased, not how many you can purchase with coupons!

More than once I've given her razors, Olay, and various other stockpile items. Didn't think to offer SB. Wink

The Archer Farms brownie overload mix was clearance to 50% off here, so $1.48. Puts Betty Crocker to shame imo. drool

What I meant by shooting yourself in the foot is that getting on the manager's bad side kinda keeps you above the radar. I try to stay on good terms with my stores so that I don't have those types of problems. Sometimes, in the past I have had the exact same thing happen to me that happened to you. Usually it's when there is a hot deal out, like SB and alot of people are using q's on them. But it always blows over very quickly and things return to normal. I have never called corporate on any of my stores. Nono

I also agree that sometimes people make snide comments because they are jealous, not to mention uninformed. I don't think they realize just how much savings can be had by clipping coupons and shopping sales.
Something else I couldn't say before because I was mobile and it would have taken too long to type with my fat fingers... but I had a situation recently with my sister, she made some snide comments to my mom about how she shouldn't ask me for free stuff because then I'll just drop off tons of stuff that she doesn't need off at her house. The back story to this is that I often would drop stuff off at my sister's house (stuff that she needed) but if there was stuff that I thought the other horribly underpaid teachers at her school could use I would leave extra for her to take in. Well I was PISSED when I heard her say it. I've gotten over the being pissed part, but I haven't dropped a single free item off at her house in the last 2 months. It really hurt my feelings, and I'm sure she didn't mean it like that, but it still did... and I'm a pretty tough cookie. I know that she is jealous of my situation. I know that she would love to stay home with her son and not have to work outside the house. I know she made the comments because she is jealous. But that doesn't really make me feel any better about it. Anyways, another hug

I actually had this happen with my mom, believe it or not. She and my dad were here on a visit a couple years ago, and it was right after a ridiculous MM of a deal with Kleenex and Windex. I remember having over 100 Kleenex and nearly as many Windex. Our house is small, so there was nowhere for the loot to go but in our living room. I was just getting in to selling at yard sales, so I knew I would make money off all of it. Anyway, I let my mom go through my stash while she was here, and she got several grocery bags full of toothpaste, Windex, Kleenex, etc.

Come to find out, she talked with one of my sisters that day or the next about how "Laurie has a problem, doesn't she? Stocking up all that junk!" and on and on. That hurt my feelings AND made me mad, because she had helped herself to lots of stuff, stuff I could have resold (and we were HURTING for money at that point), and then talked about me behind my back to my sisters. I've gotten over it, and I still give her stuff, because I know she and my dad can use it, but its always in the back of my mind that she thinks less of me somehow. However, I will say that she has definitely come to see the value of my "hobby" when I tell her how much I made at a yard sale, or how much I was able to donate, and she understands that me shopping this way helps me be able to stay at home with my kids. The reality is that hubby and I live in a ridiculously expensive area, and after health insurance and rent, there's not a lot left over. I could either sit and whine about it, or I could do something. I choose to do something. nod

Hug2 and Comfort We coupon because it saves $$ and we can use the $$ we save to buy whatever the hell we want.
I don't think I'd be 'donating' to her anymore after this.

It's kind of like going up to someone in a grocery store and commenting on their weight.
Unfortunately, it happens all the time to me. I'm finally used to it, but gees, give me a break once in a while... I think I know I have a problem with it and everyone else can see it too. (a drug addict or alcoholic can be clean and sober once in a while and never show it, but a fat person, Nono there for all to see).

Sorry... I know all too well how that feels.. I give TONS of stuff to my IL's and my BIL will come over and take all of the extra things we are willing to give away but then will tell everyone how we waste money...etc... etc... ERRR then my DH does not understand why I don't want to give them stuff... then I get told how I SHOULD buy stuff for x and x.. because I SHOULD and it SHOULDN'T be my CHOICE... WHATEVER!! LOL Sorry!! We live in an expensive area too so I know what you mean... our suburb is considered the wealthiest in NY... so house cost is CRAZY and everything else... so I choose to be able to make sure we have everything we need and then some... people LOL

Stopped by a gas station for gas today. Decided to go into the convenient store for tearpad hunting. Saw a big fat tearpad - Free One 2-liter (any flavor, regular or diet) Dr. Pepper wyb One 20-oz (any flavor, regular or diet) Dr. Pepper. It's a 14. Almost wetted my pants, although it's not my size. Took 1/3 of the tearpad and skipped all the way to my car. While I was kissing the tearpad, I saw the expiration date - 6/11/2010. Mad WTH! If you can use expired 14, they are yours.

Then, stopped by a Publix to get sour cream to make my blackberry pound cake. Saw a big fat tearpad - Save $.50 off any Annie's Homegrown or Annie's Naturals products. Almost wetted my pants. This week at Kroger, Annie's Homegrown Mac n' Cheese is on sale for $1. The MQ doubled to $1 means freebies! Took 1/3 of the tearpad and skipped all the way to the register to pay for my sour cream. While I was checking out, I saw the expiration date - 5/30/2010. Mad WTH!!!

Today was my day to find kick-ass EXPIRED tearpads.
