If buying physical in store. Make sure you are getting gift cards from locked cabinets and not off the shelf near checkout.

Excellent point.

That said, My son bought one last year that was 'compromised' with zero balance and a simple call to Target resulted in getting a new one in the mail.

So at least their customer service is good, can't stop all of the thieves...

yep but that's small change (and could be handled by apple); however, things change daily so that 20% might end up not applying to apple either. same as the 100+% for everyone could return if Xi gets ugly.
