ditto both of you. @NuttRN, can you recommend generic battery you got. I got one myself off amazon or ebay few years ago and it was crap, could barely start the mower and stopped with attempt to cut actual grass, i had to send it back.

I think this may work out better for an extra battery.

Can you use a 40v 6mah battery vs a 40v 5mah?
Curious as well, I have extra 40v GMax, if those work that would help with a big yard

I bought a pair of these in 2020 for major clearance at Walmart and they still work fantastic. I did get a few extra off brand batteries on eBay though.

I bought one off eBay previously that crapped out a week after return period. This one's held up so far, bought 8-1-24

Are the savings worth forgoing the 80v architecture?
For a small, flat yard probably yes.

I got one and immediately ordered an extra knock off battery from Amazon. 35 bucks 6ah battery.. performs about the same as the packaged 5ah battery. No complaints. It handled my 1st season mow like a champ. Got jammed up twice but in really thick tall grass so let's not ding the machine. However I did have to charge my batteries again to finish the other side of my house. So I guess I'll have to get a 3rd battery

Good deal. I don't own many Ryobi tools, but this mower will work just fine for a majority of people.I bought the 20" for $230 last week. https://slickdeals.net/f/18236968-at-certain-locations-ryobi-40v-hp-brushless-20-in-cordless-battery-walk-behind-push-lawn-mower-with-6-0-ah-battery-and-charger-ry401170-230
This deal is for a Greenworks mower, no Ryobi here.

I have had the 60V version for a long time, with 4AH + 5AH setup. I've got about 2000 sq ft of lawn and lasts fine, even with high power mode. It doesn't chew it up like a gas mower and will bog down if it's grown a bit long. I think I'd grab the 80V in the future if I could, but I already had the other landscaping tools and chainsaw. Just input if you've never had an electric, battery powered lawn mower before.

40v mowers are very mid-range if your yard is thick. My yard was a former cow pasture and the grass is thick like carpet. This mower will only mow it at a height setting of 4 to 5 which means I have to mow more often than I care to.
I regret not getting the 80v.
