Biggest drawback seems to be HDMI 2.1 ports capped at 24Gbps so 4k at anything past 60fps is going to have compromised quality. Fine for media, possibly problematic for 120Hz/VRR gaming. Audio quality and setup are pretty great as you'd expect for nearly any $300+ receiver these days.

I made a friend of mine get this to support multi zone speakers. Having being a life long owner of multiple yammies, I was confident with my recommendation. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with these newer units that are more complicated to setup and to enable multi zone connection was complicated. The mobile app is also lacking. It should be as simple as selecting the source and selecting the zone. Not on this unit. My marantz is miles ahead in user friendliness.

I finally gave up on my tsr-700 and probably Yamaha in general at this point. First time with Yamaha and it sounded great but the constant eARC issues just made the experience terrible. Maybe its not with this line, but i now am pretty sour with the company as a receiver company

Mine has been perfect with eARC. HDMI-CEC has issues with device limits if that's what you're facing.

I currently have a TSR-7850 and find the zone 2 very useful. I have zone one set up in my den with 5.1, and have zone two running to a speaker selector, which has several sets of speakers throughout the house. I use the phone app to pick the source and adjust volume. The only drawback compared to Sonos is that I can not select each set of speakers in zone 2 from my phone. I have been pleased with this receiver, but now it has an issue where it shuts off on its own after a while. It seems to be common, and I just live with it, but I would likely go with this unit if mine dies. How is the Marantz different? Can you select speakers within a zone? What model is your unit? My biggest issue with something like Marantz is cost. i can get this Yamaha for 400 bucks. The cheapest Marantz option with these specs is $750 on Accessories for less.

The Marantz will also run rings around this in terms of sound. It has a smoother, richer more defined sound with greater dynamics. I work at a consumer electronics store and sell both brands. BUT...A Marantz is also quite a bit pricier so you get what you pay for.

I bought a denon and a yamaha within two months of eachother. Set up the yamaha in one room to use immediately, and it went into protection mode within two months. Troubleshot with yamaha, they said to send it in for repair, took a few weeks and it's been working fine since. Finally set up the denon after being in the box for about a year. Within about 6 months, went into protection mode. Denon advised similar steps, unplugging and reconnecting components to troubleshoot which component was causing the issue. A speaker would don't, then it wouldn't. A device would do it, then it wouldn't. Tried different outlets and speakers and rooms. Eventually it went into protection mode with nothing connected after it was out of warranty. They refused to warranty it despite me contacting them long before the warranty was up. So, about 6 months of use for a $600 receiver. Local shop said they can't repair these like they can older ones. Personally, I'll buy Yamaha again as it's been my preferred audio since the 80s. Denon? Never again.
