If all your son has is a Switch and has complained about the size of the screen when playing in their hands then YES as you're then giving your son a larger screen + entry into 4K graphics.
Basically, for most people this is just a "fun" splurge of a purchase. Treat it like that. "He's a good son" type of purchase. He won't be missing out if he doesn't get it from you though vs some other purchases in life
One other note is that in your original comment you mainly talk about whether or not their son complains about the screen size of the Switch 1, and then go on to say that a pro of the Switch 2 would be introducing him to 4K graphics...but if he mainly plays on the handheld screen as the entirety of your original comment implies, then that wouldn't necessarily be a benefit in OPs case, since 4K is only available via docked mode.
Either way, I think OP needs to decide if they have a discretionary funds to afford a console that is $450 + tax, and also the exclusive games to go along with it, which so far are priced around $70-$80 + tax each. It would be really dependent on if their child wants any of those Switch 2 exclusive games or not, as if they are only going to be playing games that are available on both consoles, the reason to upgrade becomes purely graphical.
Personally, if it was my kid, this would be more of a Birthday or Christmas gift, if it's something they wanted, and would probably be with the understanding that it's the only Birthday or Christmas gift that they will get for that day, due to the price. OP could also offset the price a bit by selling their original Switch, if they have no need for it once they get the Switch 2.
