You need to port-in and then wait for 365 days to unlock.

I am in. Still brandishing my iPhone 5 and at this pace I don't need iPhone 14 for another 15 years. So 1 year of waiting for it to unlock is perfectly fine..

Can I use T-Mobile sim card on this during the lock period? To unlock, do I need 12 month continuous service?

By the time the phone gets unlocked, then there will be an iPhone 18 Air Plus Pro Ultra Max on the tech news already. Wink

They changed their unlock policy again 😳

Seriously, how is it even legal or fair that every carrier can mess with their phone unlock policy whenever they feel like it?
It's like they're doing their own thing behind our backs, making customers jump through hoops that feel as complicated as filing taxes. Come on, FCC—it's your job to protect us from these shady, every day changing rules.
Set one clear unlock policy for all carriers, and let the competition be fair instead of this circus 🎪.

Why are you complaining? They are subsidizing the phone and recouping the cost through the service fee. If you don't like that, there are plenty other providers with different phone subsidy schemes, or pay the actual price of the phone and go with whichever service provider you like.

Wow, really?
You're defending carriers for locking people into their ridiculous policies just because they subsidize phones?
That's such a weak excuse. These companies are making billions, and yet they still feel the need to trap customers with confusing, every day changing rules.
Not everyone can just cough up the full price of a phone or switch providers like it's no big deal.
The FCC needs to step in and stop this nonsense and enforce a 60 days unlock policy on everyone—customers deserve better than being jerked around by greedy corporations and if Verizon's MVNOs can compete with deals on that policy I don't see why the rest shouldn't.

Better yet, the government should step in and mandate everyone a free unlocked iphone from these companies every year. After all, they make billions.

You're seriously complaining lol?
A company wants to make sure you actually use their heavily discounted phone with their service instead of pocketing it and running. Clearly the FCC should drop everything and fight for your right to abuse promos.

I'm just curious why there are so many downvotes? You can still trade this phone for almost double your purchase price in credit at some places, no? That is useful to some folks I believe. I get that the unlock policy is no good, though.
