Elitism of this nature will empty your pockets unnecessarily quick. AM4 is still very relevant. Maybe no reason for you to buy but there are 8 billion other people on this planet who aren't you.
Just because it isn't the latest doesn't mean it's garbage -- this is still a powerful processor
Great deal. If you are on AM4 and still on 1 or 3 series I'd jump on this.

I didn't say that. You must be confusing me with someone else.

Depends what you want to do with it, if you have a Ryzen 1600 or 2600 and mainly want an upgrade for gaming but not invest in a X3D one, the 5600 is fine.
sorry I meant upgrade from 5600 to R7 5800xt. Is it worth it?

They are really trying to move these. I ordered one at $130 and the date stamped on the CPU is 2020.
The XT was released in 2024, the X was released in 2020. I wonder if you got the correct CPU, or it's just a high binned X

I pulled the trigger on this on a whim to upgrade my Ryzen 1800. I just upgraded from a 980ti to a 1080 my friend handed down, but it has been able to play the games I like (Witcher 3, Fallout 4, HL Alyx on the Quest). The 1080 gave everything a little bump and the 5800xt should go miles.

Actually, I'm more interested in productivity with this rig. I have been learning Fusion on my laptop (Intel i7-12700H and Intel A370M discreet GPU, 32GB ram) and it really taxes the thermal profile of this thing, some of that might be the Intel efficiency cores and poor ARC GPU support though. Hoping this is worth the $50 jump from the 5500 I was originally looking at, first upgrade in years. I was able to update my BIOS in preparation as well and confirmed that this is supported.

It was released in 2024 but it's a binned X. Mine also says 2020.

dont build a new pc around am4
What do you mean by that? AM4 is still a pretty good viable platform to build a new PC on, especially for X570 or B550. Hell, I currently own a 5800X CPU which I intend to use to build a PC for my brother to return a favor, and the 5800XT will be for me to use for ulterior purposes since my current rig contains a 5700X3D and I've already built another AM4 PC prior almost 2 years ago as an X-mas gift for my nephews containing a 5600X and 6700XT which is still going strong to this day. The amount I spent on this 5800XT pales in comparison to what I bought my 5700X3D for. And I plan to upgrade from my current X570 PC to an X870, since I've already purchased this motherboard which arrived yesterday afternoon, but I'm still waiting for prices to come down on GPUs (9070XT) and CPUs (9900X).

I know, but that's a dead end I'm willing to bear.
