First of all, these things are stupid quiet, I tested in store and was blown away, 9&12 gal were about same noise level. While talking in garage, started vacumming and didn't need to raise voices at all.

My big reason for getting 12gal ($119 as of posting) vs 9gal, besides the obvious capacity:

20ft cord vs 10ft cord
2 1/2" hose vs 1 7/8" (I already have a bunch of 2 1/2" accessories)
slightly more "horsepower"
105 CFM vs 90 CFM

I keep this in my garage and it was actually slightly smaller footprint than my old shop-vac, so I didn't have the space issue...

16gal didn't seem to have as many advantages, quite a bit more $ ($199 vs $120 for 12 & $99 for 9), but does have actual wheels instead of casters and would be much better if moving large-ish distances like a potential jobsite.

6gal actually looks to be pretty decent if needing something smaller as well. Not on sale, but $79. 4HP stated (same 8amp rating as 9gal), but using 1 7/8" hose & 10ft cord like 9gal, and 85CFM claimed.
It was $10 cheaper last year during Christmas, so if you wanna wait 8 mos to save $10, then go for it buddy.
I use this as a 'dust extractor' for my woodworking. It's super quiet. I bought a hepa filter and bag from amazon, along with like a 15' hose and some quick detachable fittings to hook up to my tools. It works great.

I don't think that's stealthsonic
Surprisingly it looks like Home Depot doesn't carry the Stealthsonic line.

this or 14gal 6hp rigid @ $100: https://www.homedepot.com/p/RIDGI.../304795071 or 4 gal 6 hp rigid @ $90: https://www.homedepot.com/p/RIDGI.../205224112
14gal Ridgid = 6HP, 10.5 amp, 165cfm, 7' - 2 1/2" dia. hose, 20' power cord
9gal Dewalt = 5HP, 8 amp, 90cfm, 7'-1 7/8" dia. hose, 10' power cord
What's more important to you, the noise level or performance level?

That 14 gallon is one short little fatty. I bought the 12 at the same price because of the footprint. I returned it and bought this DeWalt because of decibel difference. No complaints

I paid $119 and I have been very happy with how quiet it runs in the house. It's a pain to lugging it around from the basement to the second floor due to the size and weight.

My only complaint is the accessory hose/tube pouch and not molded into the casters like other brands.

It would be nice if the accessories stored on the feet. At least it's a decent storage bag because the one that comes with the stainless steel model is a net and it's a pile of garbage.

Ever been cheaper, anyone? I hear this thing is quiet and sucks in a good way.

I bought it for $89 not too long ago and it'd been that price for a while. It's more quiet than my household vaccum, and it takes up good space, not much smaller than 12gal. The suction is great, only thing that would get all the cat litter out of my thick carpet. Also was able to use it to unclog bathtub drain. Not to mention, the long flexible hose and attachments are great for sucking bugs in ceiling

So wife-approved, got it.

Which attachment do you use for the litter?

Is this the same thing offered through Home Depot?Your friend has shared a link to a Home Depot product they think you would be interested in seeing.https://www.homedepot.com/p/DEWAL.../317006329
No, homey depot only sells regular dewalt. Go to Lowes or Amazon for stealth sonic.

I might be the odd duck here but I returned mine. First, it died after a week. But I would have returned it anyway. It's not very compact for its capacity, the storage isn't great but the most annoying thing was the hose design. The hose, unlike every other shop vac I've used, doesn't spin freely, it's threaded in. So if you turn the vac with the hose it'll fall out if you do it too many times. Power is decent (nothing like my "6.5hp" craftsman behemoth but not needed) and it is quiet, hopefully I just had bad luck on the longevity front.

It looks like the 6 gal would fit better in my garage. Does it ever go on sale?

The problem with this is it doesn't have the normal blower function of a regular shop vac, which is probably why it's so quiet. Also it may have great suction, but probably sacrifices with air volume, if I recall correctly. It's an engineer trade off rather than alien technology.

The hose is a little annoying but it does move freely at the end so if you hold it there you can avoid the hose getting too twisted.

Got this a little while back. love it. 2 issues, the caster wheels get dirty fast, so if you are in the garage, then in the house, it will leave lines. the wheels are super smooth though. other issue is the accessory bag is a mess. you just throw everything into it and hope nothing falls out. I do keep a 25' extension cord in there too though. it has extra room.

What are these useful for around the house? Bigger clean up messes and around the garage cleaning than a vacuum?

Why do we continue to measure these in gallons? An almost arbitrary number. What does it matter if it's 9 gallons? Do you want to carry that much filthy water at once, anyway? You'll surely never have a 9-gallon pile of dust. Silly measurement.
