Upon checking with customer support online, this does require 60 days of uninterrupted service to get unlocked. Also for someone who already has a line active, adding a new line can get the $60 plan for $40 or lower (with auto pay).

Also. embracing for the time machine jokes, I still think 16e 128gb at $299 for the phone, was a better deal and might come back - far superior processor, 8gb ram, Apple AI support, longer os update support, convenient usb-c port instead of lightning etc. These far outweigh the potential advantages from 14 plus - 256gb, dual camera, magsafe, larger screen size etc for me.
Not true for everyone/every use case, agreed. YMMV

Is this something where you can get the device, pay a month, and then bail? And if so, could the phone be unlocked? (Sorry, if this is an ignorant question, I'm a noob.)

Yeah, the policy changes since April 1st has caused a lot of confusion. I purchased the 16e precisely on April 1 and despite the policy changes being published after I bought and they are not the same for Verizon prepaid as for mnvos, I am still going to recharge another month for my 16e, given it will need me to pay ($60 - $25 monthly discount on 16e deal - $10 from auto pay = $25) only. If I don't pay for the 2nd month and Verizon refuses to unlock in lack of 60 days of service, then worst case, I will have to pay for another consecutive 60 days at a much higher rate since I will loose the $25 discount. So, for $25+tax more, I am willing to pay to avoid any such risk.
YMMV

I didn't get my phone yet, but I got this email that my plan has already started - Good news! Your $60.00 monthly plan is all set and ready to use. Keep in mind that your current plan will be good through 06/15/2025.

I got a similar email - so nice of them to start the clock on the plan before I get the phone or activate it.

When I tried this morning, the page said 'we were not able to charge your card', so I kept trying 4 different times and it finally went through. I went to check my confirmation email, that's when I realized Verizon sent me 4 different order emails and my credit card was charged 4 times. The 4 Verizon order emails all have the same order number though.

I called Verizon immediately and the first rep (not in prepaid department) said he sees 1 order with 4 pending chargers and transferred me to the prepaid department. The prepaid rep said it should be ok because there is only 1 order and Verizon should only charge me once.

Edit:
I also got a separate email from Verizon to provide additional documents. 1 for proof of identification, and 1 for proof of address. What is going on? I will go to a Verizon store to see if I can sort out this mess later today.

Let us know what you find out. It was not until a few days ago that any of the Verizon Prepaid deals have had posts regarding needing to submit an ID and proof of address (though other phone deals have had the option to go in store or order online, which would obviously be different when considering proof of identity). Metro uses a series of questions to verify identity, but doesn't require a proof of address or ID verification. And most people in this thread who have posted about getting the deal have not mentioned the ID/address requirement although a few others have.

I just called Verizon to cancel my order, I received the email saying they wanted front and back of my Drivers license, and a Bill,I was not happy, I clicked the link and the verify page also wanted a live picture of me, I closed the link, I called them, the rep said he needed my SSN number, thats when I told him just to cancel the order. Verizon is now asking additional info because people were taking advantage of the deal and ordering lots off phones, one guy here said he bought 10 iPhones(F U buddy),unless people are willing to give Verizon their all your info this deal is dead

The guy who ordered 10 phones posted that they ordered the final set of four phones in the same order to a single address...which is also not allowed by this deal (it states one promo per account), so Verizon's approach to getting the deal already wasn't watertight before, I guess they made changes now.

Agree it is too bad, and also unfortunate that the Verizon Prepaid web site doesn't disclose this, when the company they own (Total Wireless) at least is transparent about requiring ID verification.

At the same time Verizon requires this information for postpaid (name, address, ID, SSN). However, I agree, this shouldn't be a regular condition for prepaid orders.

Went to the store and the store rep called the prepaid line from the store. The phone rep said it shows the order went through but was puzzled by the ID and proof of address request. The store rep also confirmed prepaid should not need to verify ID either. Both of them don't know why Verizon is asking for additional proof. The phone rep said the order looks ok on her end and I should receive my phone on Tuesday. I show the verify page to the store rep and she confirmed that is Verizon official website but used for verification on postpaid customers. Will report back if I get the shipment email.

Same exact thing happened to me, they've already considered my "next month of service" as the 16th even though the phone arrived the 1st, so I guess that first "month" of service was actually 15 days lol... wild.

I however, did not pay for a second month of service as I don't need the phone to unlock immediately (we are now using it on a Verizon post-paid plan). Hopefully it still unlocks after 60d, but ehhh we'll see!

Unfortunately not, Autopay discounts do not kick in until after the first month of service. The only other way to get this discounted is to have already been a Verizon prepaid customer, which entitles you to the "Multi-Line" discount, bringing it down from $60 to $40 for the first month, and $30/mo thereafter. You're stuck with the $60 unless you meet that criteria, as far as I'm aware.

On 3 different accounts or just one account? The main page states, "Limit one device per account."

Did you get asked to provide an ID and document to verify your address?

No, but I've had a Verizon pre-paid account for 5 years. I was already moving away from Verizon due to the Google Fi Pixel 9 / Pixel Watch 3 deal that happened recently, and I got this deal with my Verizon account w/ the multi-line discount, and then ported my number out of Verizon after the phone arrived. I assume they didn't ask me for proof/ID due to having that existing account with them already.

Makes sense in your case, and your case probably doesn't apply to most of the people trying to get this deal. My hypothesis is, though, that this asking for ID/address happened only part of the way through this deal.

What do you plan to do with your iPhone 14 Plus? If you ported out, I imagine you are going to have a wifi only device for the next 60 days. Let it unlock then resell?
