No way are they putting their flagship chip in their cheapest and most basic product. The A16 is still very snappy in this iPad. Your average student, grandparent, or otherwise budget conscious shopper isn't going to care.

What they might care about is the non-laminated screen and the lack of pressure sensitivity in the Apple Pencil USB-C accessory.

But on the whole this is incredible value for anyone who doesn't want to spend more for the Air or Pro iPads.
