I mean, yeah, it's a little shady to abuse the retention department, but I got stuff to do, I'm not sitting on hold for 45 mins, told some bs, get disconnected while on hold or xfr'd, and then call back in and wait for a supervisor, like a lot of people here did.
It was a 5 minute call and my phone was on my account and working.
Smarter not Harder, friends. 🙂

I eventually supplied them with the order number in the account and after a long wait they came back and told me it is an order from someone who ordered the phone but later cancelled the order. They said there is nothing to worry about and the phone was just sent to the next person in the order queue but that there is no way to remove the previous order from being associated with the device.
I don't know where to go from here. I'm just exhausted from the whole thing. I don't want to be accused of taking someone else's phone or account. I informed them that many people are reporting the same problem with receiving the wrong phones but they said they have heard of no such reports.
