Your link didn't work. Is ART a feature or description of what base Dirac does or something that's part of DLBC? I don't know what you mean by ART takes it to another level.

Ok I think I fixed the link, try it again.

In basic terms ART is Dirac's new RC add on to DL/DLBC.
Here is a video from Dirac themselves, hope it helps.

This or Onkyo RZ30 for $799? Will only be using 5 channels and 2 subs.

It depends on importance of features for you.

Keep in mind one feature the RZ30 can't negate is the extra channels.

Depends how far in the Dirac tech tree you're going. We know ART is coming to the 3800 but w/a heavy investment required. There's a tiny chance the RZ30 may be ART-eligible but I'd like to see PAC fix how DLBC works in their AVRs as a sign of good faith!

Great price!
As someone mentioned in another post BB was finally closing their Magnolia section and clearing out everything.

Unfortunately no luck here, I would have upgraded from this to the Cinema 50 for $1050! 😩

It might be worth it since you save so much money on the initial 3800 cost. There's a reason why this AVR costs a bit more than the equivalent PAC AVR: it's got a dual-core SHARC chip that's found all the way up to the flagship A1H! I believe this is a major reason why it is eligible for the ART upgrade (good for at least 1600 MIPS).

I don't know what DSP is in the PAC AVRs (RZ50, etc.) but based on the issues they're having with DLBC, lets just say I don't have a lot of confidence ART is showing up for them. As being able to perform DLBC is a requirement for ART, this rules out the following AVRs that have the base Dirac license:

Onkyo 7100
Integra DRX 3.4
Pioneer 305
Pioneer 505 (never got DLBC and the brand appears to be orphaned)
In the realm of slick deals
Those AVR's you mentioned from PAC seem to be quite popular

I just dont see someone spending $900 for DIRAC licenses on a $1000 AVR
Possible yes..probable..I dont think so

if you want to speculate on orphans..You might speak to the recent acquisition of Sound United , By Harman Internation( Samsung)at 65% less than it was sold for just a few years ago. Along with their financial numbers, rumored to be 30% down year over year in sales

As I mentioned in AVS forum..I cant imagine Harman International is not going to stop that financial bleeding with cuts very quickly on their new acquisition.

I would argue that it depends how much value you believe Dirac offers.

People often say Dirac is head and shoulders better when it comes to sound improvement.

If that's the belief then that $900 sound improvement is exactly the same on a $1k avr as it is on a $2k avr.

You can look at the graph at the bottom of this link.
Dirac gives you a basic illustration of what each of their RCs offer.
ART offers quite a bit of benefit vs Dirac Live that's often rolled into those popular avrs.

Imo it makes more sense to spend $1k rather than $2k on an AVR where you can have this sound improvement.

What (if anything) makes this AVR $400 better than the Integra DRX 3.4 deal that's also currently posted?

In basic terms, it has more upside/features.
Whether they are of value for the extra cost is a personal choice.
Here is a feature comparison that should help.

Thanks. So the answer would be (for anyone else who is interested):

+ 2 additional channels of processing
+ Auro 3D
- The Integra includes a DIRAC license.

My preamp and amp are over 40 years old. If you're only interested in audiophile quality 2 channel sound and listening to Tidal and Qobuz is this a good deal or should i look elsewhere?
