Thank you for everyone's help.

Ordered 6/24
Shipped 6/25
Received 6/27

Followed all the steps to unlock the phone. It takes some time but worth it.

Unlocked phone and installed all the updates.

Chatted with customer service and they said they cancelled the line and $0 balance. We will see.

Took 20 minutes on chat.

For people that want to pay off your device with split payments, just overpay your bill here, and the credit will take take of your device owed when the line is canceled.

I think you may do that with *729 (*PAY) on your phone too, but I never tried it. Good luck!

yes there is no self serve option. you have to call in the number that shows up when you pop in a different sim
What's that number that shows up? You are the first person I know that was able to get anything unlocked before 60 days. They used to do for deployed military personals, but now they only give the option to suspend the line for deployed military personals and will unlock only after 60 days. You are very lucky.

You got a free phone, just go to a Verizon store to open a new Verizon post paid account and put the SIM in the phone to activate, come back home and cancel the line. The phone will automatically unlock after 60 days. Do verify with them before one more time that they don't have your info linked with any Verizon account.
after a month, i got first month bill in mail having acc number and phone number from verizon. initially the phone does not have sim or phone number. thought its a free phone, had to setup account, got phone number activated and cancelled line in a day. walmart definitely scanned the phone but the processing took a while it seems. now the new account clearly shows the imei of phone. they said the line has been active 6/9. the phone was purchased 5/30, delivered 6/1. now i wonder how to cancel the charges.

Do you mean you setup a different account on that phone and cancelled it? Now it shows the old account and DPP?

6/19: Ordered Verizon S24U.
6/22: Received phone and activated
6/23: Paid off $432 at Verizon store. Port out to Tello. Line is automatically disconnected.
6/28: Received final bill of $56.xx. They did not cancel the $35 activation fee.

Looks like they count 3 days from the day of shipping and not the day you activate on the Verizon network. Any chance that they will take the activation fee off from the final bill?

It's from the time the "line" is activated which is when the phone is being shipped out.

I heard that phone from Verizon will be locked for at least 60 days. How can you port it out to Tello? Are there any trick about the procedure?

Hmm.. I am not sure how to fix this but you might have to now cancel the old account. But you should chat and tell them you had to open a new account to be able to use the phone and they might credit you some back.

I will try, but I plan to return the phone itself to Walmart. Let's see they will cancel everything.

If you try to return to Walmart, make sure you return in the WARP wireless dept as that needs to go to Verizon for them to cancel on their end.
