Boost Mobile [boostmobile.com] has 512GB Motorola edge+ 2023 Smartphone (Boost Mobile Locked, Black) on sale for $59.99 + $60 1-Month Unlimited Talk/Text/Data Service = $119.99. Shipping is free.

This phone is now back in stock at Boost. It's a steal at this price still has better specs than most phones out there especially with 512gb of storage. I bought one on last years deal and was able to unlock it via one of the unlockers who were kicked off of eBay. Many didn't have the unlock codes yet back then but would assume their available now. YMMV. I currently use mine with Instabridge esim for 5gb of free data a month. Just bought another for my wife.

Note, on product page select "I don't want protection" or Boost Protect will be added to cart at $12/month.

Specs (source [motorola.com]):
Processor: Qualcomm SM8550-AB Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 (4 nm)
Display: 6.7" 1080x2400 165Hz pOLED
RAM: 8GB LPDDR5X
Storage: 512GB
Operating system: Android 13
Battery: 5100mah
Cameras:
Rear Camera Hardware - 50MP, 1/1.5" optical format, f/1.8 aperture, 1.0µm pixel size | Quad Pixel Technology for 2.0µm, Omni-directional PDAF, Optical Image Stabilization, 50MP Ultrawide angle (114° FOV), Macro Vision, f/2.2 aperture, 0.64µm pixel size | Quad Pixel, Technology for 1.28µm, 12MP Portrait (2x telephoto), f/1.6 aperture, 1.22µm pixel size, Ambient Light Sensor
Front Camera Hardware - 60MP, f/2.2 aperture, 0.61µm pixel size | Quad Pixel Technology for 1.22µm

I was wondering the same thing if it would drop to free with the plan.
You seem very knowledgeable and wanted to ask about the SIM card. When I go to activate the phone I need the IMEI and SIM card number. Does the card need to be inserted into the phone to activate it online. Asking because I might not have access to the phone. Thanks
doesn't need inserted in phone just activated on website once its assigns a new number the order changes from processing to complete under order history once activate all the lines.

Website asks for ICCID for activation, which you won't have until you receive the package.

i understand you r situation.
i would add. if possible. do insert sim. make a call or 2.
remember you are agreeing to activate the phone in T & C.
i would take the additional precaution to "fully activate" by registering a call.
covers all your bases

Ok here's what I did:
  • Install the app RedteaGO
  • Sign up for an account in the app
  • Somewhere in the app (can't remember the exact location) there is an option for a free/trial esim plan (100MB over 3 days in US). Tap that and you would have instantly "purchased" that plan. No payment method needed.
  • Tap "Download eSIM" under the plan, and that's it.

Looks like this is an oversea company and is roaming on T-Mobile in my area. The RedteaGO SIM shows up under "Mobile network". But the eSIM is still hidden in About phone/SIM status.
noted,
but i think the question is how do u register the esim on the phone?
did u enter imei2 online on redtea site?
did u scan a qr code on the phone?

Didn't do any of these. Just clicked the download button from within the app and the esim installed itself.

Are you thinking about doing it? Since the phone will arrive a few days into your next cycle, I guess it wouldn't make sense to order it now even though the prorated charge for the service is only $1.29. I assume if you let your service expire, you won't be able to activate the new phone until you prepay for all the lines on your account for the next month, which would be a disaster. I guess it is probably only safe to order new phones about 10 or so days before your billing cycle ends in case it takes them longer to ship them out.

I know Metro lets you activate phones immediately after they shim them, but Boost needs the SIM card ID, so I don't think there is a way to activate before you receive the phone.

Edit: Nevermind. I see that you just mentioned that you don't need to insert the sim card in the phone to activate it and nothing about activating it without the sim card or the phone.

You will need to have the SIM card in order to activate. They need the ID from the SIM card in order to complete the activation process. If you don't have access to the phone, someone will need to open the SIM card packet that comes with the phone and give you that ID.

Much appreciation to the OP, desi babu and others ! eSIM, numberporting, resale and QR code questions:
Is there any way to try a Boost eSIM on this phone before using the enclosed SIM to activate it on Boost? One poster noted this a question, but no answers yet. If this might work, would solve the eSIM issue. Is this the reason to ask Boost for a QR code?

I would also like to be able to use an eSIM for this phone and prefer not to change the OS. (FWIW, Rob Braxman uses IodeOS for his de-googled and anti-spyware phone. I think it can be used for the MEP 2023, but just a guess.) Other postings mention other OS's, retail, retail US versions and difficulty in getting Android updates, especially security updates, OTA non synch issues etc once you use a non-Boost / DISH version of Android. Bricking the phone always seems to be a risk as well. Instabridge: (WIFI Hotspot Map, eSIM etc) gets horrible reviews on Play Store -so I will not use it, despite a couple of postings about using it. I read the new posts about RedteaGO eSIM. https://esim.redteago.com/esim-united-states Sounds like their US eSIM starts at 70 cents a day. Not sure about other costs. So, if this is a "hack" that allows Verizon, ATT, T Mobile, etc eSIMs to work as well, worth every penny. Has anyone used another carrier eSIM successfully after RedteaGO eSIM yet?
In the meantime, I am a bit confused about the posts where Boost or another provider is supposed to offer us a QR code. If you call or do a chat, you have to provide a reason for the request - what EXACTLY is this QR code supposed to do for us and why, .... ? How do we receive it - email? Once received do we just scan it from desktop monitor via phone camera and poof, we enter the Magic Kingdom? Sorry to be thick.
Does this Boost promotion only work if you port in an existing number from a source outside Boost, eg Verizon? If you do not port in a number, will Boost assign you a new phone number at zero cost or do you have to somehow buy a new phone number first? Is it safest to burn a number assigned by Boost and after the first prepaid month is finished, and after successful $12-15 ish unlock works, switch to a number used on an older phone you want to replace via switching SIM / eSIM?
It seems you must activate the MEP 2023 meaning you have to open the box, use the enclosed SIM, do some calls, texts and use some data, etc. Will that crush the resale value? I assume a factory reset will be required.

Thanks in advance.

for my case of trying to get an esim on visible, could i get the visible esim qr code meant for another phone, and scan it on the moto?

altho i'm not sure how this would help me either, as i dont know how to get another esim qr code, i was wondering perhaps for my 12r.

i'm very unclear how esims actually work

in this case at least its actually more controlling, because if visible wont let me go through their esim processes, due to always checking an imei whitelist to start, it doesnt matter what the phone supports. which is not the case with pysical sim such as the iphone workaround.

How many lines have you added total? I just activated my second and third lines today and the SIM card for the second one seems bad, no phone will see it, so I'm going to Boost store to get a replacement now.

That's what I'd be worried about too... Better to make new account, order first line, then 20 days later, order second and third lines.

I don't think that'll work, the eSIM QR code likely contains the IMEI, and if scanned by different phone, it won't activate. I'm 99% Visible is that other, other eSIMs are generic though.

Thanks. I plan on eventually doing that. Just want to see if I can activate the phone without having to put in the Sim card.
