There are several Ryobi bundle packages from Home Depot posted recently. Most of them are available as a buy-one-get-one (BOGO) deal. I would strongly recommend purchasing in this format even if you are not interested in a hack. If anything goes wrong with one part of the bundle or it doesn't do what it needs to, you can return the bad part rather than having to return the whole bundle.

The deals (prices in parentheses are tool prices if purchased separately):

2Ah/4Ah kit - $99 with the following tools available: [homedepot.com]
  • Clamp speaker ($59.97)
  • Jig Saw ($69.00)
  • Fan ($59.97)
  • Leaf blower ($69.97)
  • Inflator ($69.97)
  • Oscillating tool ($79.00)
  • Reciprocating saw ($79.00)
  • LED work light ($79.00)
  • Hand vac ($69.97)
  • Hedge trimmer ($79.97)
  • Random orbital sander ($59.97)
  • Caulk gun ($79.00)
  • Power scrubber ($79.00)

2Ah/4Ah/4Ah kit - $199 with the following tools available: [homedepot.com]
  • Any tool in the above list or...
  • HP impact wrench ($179.00)
  • Tripod light ($199.00)
  • HP brad nailed ($189.00)
  • HP angle grinder ($129.00)
  • HP circular saw ($119.00)
  • HP stick vac ($199.00)
  • HP one-handed reciprocating saw ($119.00)
  • HP leaf blower ($159.00)

Note that some of the bundled (non-BOGO) deals don't seem to be available in the BOGO format. Here are some of those that were posted by others:

Is the deal hackable where you can cancel the battery via HD app and keep the extra tool?

How does it work with the app?
  1. Follow the link above to the battery kit
  2. Select the free tool
  3. Add to cart
  4. Go to cart and select different pick up locations for the kit and tool
  5. Order
  6. View order and cancel what you don't want
If the cancellation doesn't work, wait for the unwanted item to be available for pick up and either:
  1. Call the store to cancel
  2. Wait a couple of weeks until it automatically cancels
  3. Pick it up and return it

Ooh, they fix the hack or just bad luck on your end?

It works for me in the app and on the web. You go to the item you want to change in the cart, then above the orange box that says "Pickup" it should say "Pickup at ***location***". Click on the underlined location and find another one then hit "Update in Cart". It should allow it (it does for me at least) but will give a warning that you can ignore.
If you can't separate the pickup locations, you could always pickup all of the bundle and then return what you don't want (or just tell them that you don't want all of it).

Ship them both to the same location, and when you pick up, immediately return the one you don't want. The dual location trick simply saves you the time of waiting in the returns line. The reps on the returns register don't care. Maybe they ask why. Maybe. Just say, my friend game me his instead or something fluffy like that.

Once you add the items to the cart, the price of each item is split evenly in the cart. The batteries are 99.50 and the free tool is 99.50. When you go to return, wouldn't you only get the 99.50 back, which means this is no longer hackable?

Does anyone have the hedge trimmer with any thoughts? Reviews seem to complain about the safety/trigger mechanism. Always like to get more batteries, and could use the trimmer, but don't want to be disappointed.....

If you're talking about the $199 kit with a $199 tool (tripod light) then yes, that's exactly how it should work. The two items are prorated to total the cost of the kit ($199). In that example the prorating is a 50:50 split since the tool price is the same as the kit price. If you return one item for $99.50, you will have paid $99.50 for a $199 item. That is exactly what the hack is.

In another example, you can add the fan and the $99 kit to the cart and they will prorate at $61.65 for the kit and $37.35 for the fan. If you change pickup locations, that split in pricing remains the same. You could then cancel or not pick up the kit and you would end up paying $37.35 for the fan.

Gotcha! I haven't been on SD in a while and I could be wrong, but didn't the hack used to be: return batteries, keep tool for free?
