That is correct. The glass carafe models have a heating element. I have had the brushed stainless one for over 10 years, which is also on sale. It is the best drip coffee maker I have ever had.

This is a thermal a glass lined carafe. I cracked my metal carafe a few months ago, this is what I replaced mine with - it's great.

11 year owner of this unit - outside busting the carafe, this has been a beast.

First what you said about the element, THOUGH, some would say it can burn your coffee sitting there.
2nd - the old aluminum carafes can impart a strange flavor into the coffee. But that was resolved with these new glass lined carafes.

That is what I am reading on reddit as well, the new ones are glass lined so the flavor change is not really a concern anymore.

Easier to get the coffee out and clean really. One thing I've learned over the last few years is that it comes out so ridiculously hot that you want to turn the unit off and let it rest for 5-10 minutes before pouring. I NEVER leave the coffee on the heating element.

All. Remove the carafe and it stops but why? This isn't a machine like that.

If you want to grab a cup before it finishes a large batch that's fine but it finishes so quick that I don't really see the point. You're just drinking an inferior product that way.

I'm used to using k-cups and drip machines like the Keurig, and want to get away from them.

I gotta say though. If you're trying to move away from a keurig. This is a massssssive overkill and if you aren't using a good freshly ground bean it really isn't worth it. Get an aeropress and a kettle. It'll cost you half this. And it'll get you a single serve like you already drink.
