It was the "Thank You" version of the CVS GC. I am not sure if the barcode is "long", but it takes up the majority of the back of the card. I hope that was useful.
The issue has been with the $15 EB printing. It prints on the new cards that have the big barcode in the center on the back. It doesn't print on the old cards with the small barcode in the corner. I don't see any reason why the old cards wouldn't work as payment at the pharmacy and SCO.

I purchased three such cards for the ECBs, and payments failed for all three. So maybe it was a bad batch? CS emailed to me a replacement for one GC and completely ignored a message I sent complaining about the other two. Very frustrating.

Does your store have the new registers? Maybe that's the reason. If your cards don't work like they should, then CVS needs to replace them. My guess is that CVS didn't program the old cards into the new registers because I'm told that the old barcode hasn't been used for 5 years. Your store probably ran out of the new gift cards and still had some of the old ones in a box so they put them out. The store didn't do it on purpose. They had no idea that they wouldn't work. One thing is for sure - CVS shouldn't be giving you a hard time about it. It's 100% CVS's fault. They need to make it right.

If all else fails, you can buy something with your messed up card at the front register and then refund it and they'll issue a store credit and that card will work for you. Don't do the refund right after you buy it. Wait a few days so that you don't get flagged and asked to show your DL. Don't buy anything with EB to avoid any issues with the return. It sucks that you have to do this but you paid your money for the gift card and you need for it to work for you.

Thank you for the advice, FP. I may try that.

Also, yes, my store does have the new registers at SCO and the pharmacy counter. So maybe that's the cause?

I'm thinking that's why. If CVS gives you a problem, I'd ask them to give you a gift card for your trouble. It's a series of mistakes on their end (putting out the old gift cards, not programming them into the new registers) that you had nothing to do with. Your time is valuable and they shouldn't waste it. Mistakes happen but they need to fix them, not give you the run around.
