I have no experience with these reels at all but looking at the bang for buck at these specs is insane to me. Even if they performed decently for one season would make them a heck of a deal.

Dobyns makes great rods, but these reels are the same as every other similarly priced option from Pure Fishing (think budget Abu) or whoever else. If you know what you're in for it's only $30, but if you're new to baitcasters I'd recommend something with a metal frame and a less frustrating braking system. Daiwa Fuego and Shimano SLX can be had for $70 or so and are well worth the extra money.

I agree with the point you're making, but where are you getting SLX or Fuego for $70? Those usually hold pretty steady at $99 unless you're talking about buying used.
