I have no experience with these reels at all but looking at the bang for buck at these specs is insane to me. Even if they performed decently for one season would make them a heck of a deal.

Dobyns makes great rods, but these reels are the same as every other similarly priced option from Pure Fishing (think budget Abu) or whoever else. If you know what you're in for it's only $30, but if you're new to baitcasters I'd recommend something with a metal frame and a less frustrating braking system. Daiwa Fuego and Shimano SLX can be had for $70 or so and are well worth the extra money.

I agree with the point you're making, but where are you getting SLX or Fuego for $70? Those usually hold pretty steady at $99 unless you're talking about buying used.

You'll have to hit a sale, and I fish LH baitcasters, so that may be a factor, but I've gotten the Fuegos from Amazon and the SLX from American Legacy Fishing.

Price is at $30.39 currently. They do have the red one for $27.56 though. I've always fished BCs with my right-hand and have gotten used to it. I get why there is a rising trend to go left-handed with these (especially if you're right-handed) but I tried a LH BC and it just felt super weird and I couldn't keep fishing it hahaha. Interestingly, I am most accustomed to fishing my spinning reels left-handed.
Conventional gear (with much heavier fish in the picture) is all right-handed for me though which is probably why I prefer right-handed baitcasters too. I've just gotten used to the ergonomics and handle position. Same thing with winding with my left on spinning reels. It's all muscle memory I guess...

How is the braking system "less frustrating"? Do you own one or are you just copying and pasting Daiwa/shimano fanboy logic?
I own an SLX, some pure fishing and a lews and there's nothing special or especially intuitive about a basic shimano bait caster.

I'm not a snob or fanboy. I do own one. Different reels have different kinds of brakes (centrifugal, magnetic, DC) and there's variety and quality differences within each type. Better quality braking systems are easier to dial in, are more consistent, more forgiving, and help you cast further. Metal frames are more durable. Fish whatever works for you, but there are marked differences between a Magforce Daiwa and a Black Max.
