Sure, it's not as "fast" as a base M4 Macbook Air -- but it's cheaper than the best sale price on the M4 Air so far. The Pro has 16/512, which is a modest improvement over the base M4's 16/256.
Let's address a hard fact -- unless you are doing heavier sustained workloads like batch photo editing/compiling software/video editing, you're NOT going to saturate the CPU on these machines. You'll gobble up the meager 16gb of ram long before you tax that CPU.
The 14" MBP has "active cooling" -- aka a F-A-N. Which somehow Apple seemed to forget to put into their Air line of computers. Which dontchaknow, get heat-soaked extremely quickly and throttle down, especially on multi-core and GPU workloads -- so the Air is great for casual, light-duty "burst" workloads. The Pro with the little spinning thing that moves air will keep chugging along without a second thought, hours on end. All depends if you actually USE your machine or if it's a coffee shop status symbol.
The Pro's screen & speakers are exemplary. Some would argue almost best-in-class, second only to the 16" Macbook Pro. This is what sets it apart from the Air line. Don't get me wrong, the Air's screen and sound are very decent for a $850-1000 entry-level laptop. But this Pro will humble it instantly. Oh, what was that? It's $100 cheaper too? Hmm.
But if you connect it to an external monitor and use headphones like a decent human being, those points are moot.
Second -- The screen, speakers, and weird spinning thing that moves ACTUAL "air" on this Pro laptop sets it apart. But hey, have fun having a thermally throttled M4 Air (which isn't cooled by any air, unless you count how hard you're blowing on it).

It's like playing the lottery with these refurb'd MacBooks at Best Buy though. To be fair they don't give you a hard time if you return.
