Only 90mg of magnesium comes from a single dosage of this. I think you're confusing actual magnesium intake to magnesium glycinate. Doctor's best has 2000mg glycinate per serving as a comparison but only 200mg of magnesium comes from that dose.

Before you spend more than you need to on magnesium supplementation, please read this article:

Despite what internet comments will tell you, magnesium oxide is a fantastic mag supplement. It's also what they will give you at the hospital if you are low on mag.

500mg is almost 20% more than the recommended total of magnesium for one adult in a 24 hour period and I recommend starting at half a dose because it does cause grogginess throughout the day if you take the full amount before bed.

Likely on sale because people who take mag glyc know to not slam 500 of it in a single dose.

This makes you insanely groggy if you take it at the wrong times. Take it a few hrs before the bed. Also, over time it has caused me anhedonia and loss of motivation/energy. I stopped using itIf you're eating and sleeping well, and exercising, you don't need any of this crap. I just started working on fixing those

I believe you are correct. This is actually a rather small dose.

It also helps lower blood pressure.
Unfortunately I had to stop taking 400 MG because it raised my blood pressure, but it did work great for stopping muscle cramps. Overall I had more fluidity in my body and less tightness.

Thomas DeLauer has some excellent videos on the different types of magnesium.

Kind of a high dose in one capsule, right? That's even higher than Calm. And the study on mood was spreading it out…100-300 per meal? Hmm
It's only 90 mg of elemental magnesium glycinate per pill. So you need like 3-4 to get a decent dose. Luckily this is 240 pills.

Edit: someone just mentioned this

Some reviews point out that this product failed 3rd party testing and it does not contain the 500mg claimed on the label.

Naturebell is generally considered a good supplement brand by many customers, with positive reviews on Amazon and other platforms citing high quality, reasonable pricing, and effective products. However, it's worth noting that the company is owned by a Chinese government-backed entity, Sichuan Guangsong Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd.

The article is published by AlgaeCal, a company that sells bone health supplements—including AlgaeCal Plus, which contains magnesium oxide.

The tone is persuasive, aiming to reframe magnesium oxide as superior, especially in cost and pill count.

It critiques other sources for misrepresenting magnesium oxide, positioning itself as a more trustworthy authority.

The conclusion—"Magnesium oxide is the most effective magnesium supplement"—is a strong claim that aligns with their product formulation.

📌 Verdict: The motive is clearly commercial. While the science isn't fabricated, it's curated to support their product's inclusion of magnesium oxide.

The nature's bounty magnesium glycinate that I buy at costco has been the best one for me based on the blood tests I have had. I was kind of surprised the cheap one worked better than the ones that advertise better quality. Oxides and citrates weren't great at bringing up my levels and they have their own side effects that I didn't get with the glycinate. I would recommend taking it late at night because it definitely puts you to sleep.

Magnesium oxide does seem to have a better laxative effect. Better them magnesium glycinate anyway.

It's such a jungle of misinformation in the supplement world. It's good to remember that anecdote is not evidence. Also if someone makes a contention or claim without a good source linked, it's no better than hot air.
