Applied and approved immediately - card should arrive in 3 days. Credit score was 830 but dropped by 14 points due to the query.

Premier travel cards with high annual fees (venture X, AMEX plat, CSR) usually have unlimited lounge access rather than a few passes.

What I really value is whether I can bring my wife/son to the lounge. VentureX, for example, is taking away that benefit - I will be canceling that card.

However, I don't think this card is all that good but getting it for one year is no brainer.

Just wanted to post here that the link for 100K points worked. On citi online, I see the status as "Earn 100,000 ThankYou Points ... ...". Thanks OP.

Just remember that the benefits are based on calendar year and not on account anniversary year. So you have $300 in hotel credits until Dec 31 and then another $300 next year. Same thing with Best Buy credit.

None of those cards come with unlimited Admiral's club, as that's an exclusive to the ($595) Citi Executive World Elite MC, and that card has precious few other perks unless you're a frequent AA flyer.

The big three all have the same* priority pass select membership that gets you into crappiest, most crowded general lounges and some mid-tier intl airline lounges during off-peak hours. Sure, there are nice PP lounges - Aberdeen Scotland has one of the best unrestricted PP I've ever been in - but most are pretty rough, esp when compared to AA and Delta lounges or the CapOne, Sapphire, and Centurion.

*VX is nerfing lounges hard on 2/1/26 - card holder only for both CapOne and PP. I'd drop mine, but instead I might just have my wife get he own. The card gives 2x points per $ on everything, 2x fees is still $5 less than a CSR, and we get $400 in credit every year ($300 in the C1 portal and 10k points which are statement-credit redeemable for $100 against travel). That's essentially 0 cost for me.

Spending through the portal is PITA - at least for me - so doubling down with two cards is 2X PITA. When hotel is booked through the portal, you can't take advantage of your hotel status. And for airline tickets, I think Amex Platinum is the best - I have been able to get business class fares that are few % points cheaper than airline own websites.

It's also great for lounge access as an Alaska Airlines flyer...

Oh, I 100% agree. The C1 portal is trash, and mostly overpriced. Their official policy on price matching is essentially "we are cheaper than rack rate", and effectively "pay us non-refundable now and we *might* consider a price match, but we have your money so we'll probably tell you to pound sand." All the good deals are behind logins (Booking, Direct book discounts).

Still, I can usually find a hotel or last minute fixed car rental within 10-15% of open market and burn the credit that way. And the 10k points is still $100 off the top. IMHO, that beat's CSR's "$150 off semi-annually on $600+/night hotels you wouldn't have stayed in". It might sound like copium, but I honestly don't use Lyft/Uber/DoorDash, I don't subscribe to any (paid) streaming services, and GE is once every 4 years.

1st experience with the citi travel portal - a piece of crap. I wanted to book a couple of business class tickets to take advantage of the 6% cashback - these guys don't even have an option to book a multi-city flight - only roundtrip or one-way flights. Their suggestion for multi-city was to book individual one way flights - which is completely crap since the airlines tend to have better fares for open jaw tickets. So much for that theoretical 6X points on flight cashback.

Finally ended up booking on Amex portal. While the portal is not the greatest in how it displays the results but the Amex "International Airline Program" for Amex Platinum simply rocks. My fare through Amex was much lower than directly booking through the airline. That is my kind of portal!

I agree on multi city booking, that's not available. But for one way, they have pretty much all the options out there for dates we were looking.
For me the first year is attractive, $300 deduction for hotels straight, unlike Amex Plat where pricing was higher to get that extra $100 back, I got better rates from hotel website.
Not to mention $200 back on bestbuy.
Lounge access to me is hit / miss with every Tommy with a credit card out there.

The problem with Amex plat , I faced was the points transfer. Not having United / American an option, Aeroplan is the only good alternative when it comes to freedom of booking. Yes, you can transfer to Emirates for now, but there's hardly good deal with miles @ Emirates.

I don't mind getting 80k miles with this card for American plus another 10-20k miles with hotels and other flights booking for first year.

Next year, we will see what comes along.

Let me repeat myself - for 1st year, you can get two $300 hotel credits and two BBY credits + 100K points. 1st year for this card is a no-brainer. It is the 2nd year where it is not interesting.

For me, Amex Plat is free+ through Schwab and I save extra on with the Amex International airline program. Gives me 5% on air booked anywhere and even though airline transfers may not be the greatest, another 10% when points converted to Schwab credit.
