Has anyone powered a shed with solar panels that can kick in some advice? Not looking to run much, just some LED lighting and charge tool batteries. I figured an inverter, a couple of panels and a battery would be enough to get it done, just not sure how to go about it and whether it would be cheaper to do that than go through the hassle of trenching the hundred feet there and running power from the house underground.

for such a simple setup it might be worth just grabbing a panel or two and a kwh ecoflow or bluetti

Only problem with that is that the battery shouldn't be left in the cold during the winter. If you only want it when temps are above freezing though, then go for it!

Two 100ah deep cycle batteries, solar controller ($25), inverter (1,000 watt), fuse block (cheap), wire…I wouldn't mess with lithium due to higher costs of all above

Lithium is cheaper than lead acid by a bit! Lead acid should only be considered for motor loads or start banks, period.

You can leave lithium in the cold, its charging that is the issue. get heated packs if you need to charge below freezing.

I'd go with a power station instead of individual components for that small of a load. LFP is standard battery chemistry now. It's safe and lasts a long time, even with daily cycling. Bonus is you can pick it up and easily use it elsewhere if you need power in a random location. The conduit and electrical wire will cost a lot more than 2-4 solar panels and a quality 1 kWh power station. If you want to use it in the winter, just store the power station in the (heated) house and carry it out to the shed. Once it's being used and hooked up to the solar, it will generate enough heat to keep itself at normal operating temperatures.
I just saw a delta 3 deal for around $450, that is a good price point imo. Stay with the power stations that have >= 1kWh battery and 1800w+ inverters. The smaller ones are more portable but can take less solar and limit your run time. You can use power pretty quickly on a cloudy day and want something that will last a while...

The other way around, lifepo4 will show better performance in cold temps over lead acid.

They are ALL the same - probably all coming out of the same factory -- the difference will be miniscule

Go with LiFePO4 batteries ... go to www.diysolarforum.com .. they have an entire section on what you are asking ...

If your camping is in a tent, then there are a lot of good deals right now on portable power stations. These have everything except the solar panel built in. You will just need a reasonably portable solar panel or two if you expect to drain the power station. The output of the panel needs to be sufficient to meet the needs of power station. Most power stations can be re-charged by your car when driving but that has its own complications and limitations.

If you are using any type of camper then you can go the battery, controllers, wire, etc., route but you will not be taking that into a tent with you and the engineering behind it can be daunting: matching solar panel amps and volts to the controller (MPPT recommended), Serial or Parallel connections, wire gauge, on and on. I spent literally upwards of 15 hours learning how to fit it all together. The Power Station is almost PnP.

Will Prouse (/) is the go to youtube guy to start your journey.
