I haven't played this item in particular, but often time string-based instruments that are incredibly cheap are not set up well and prepare the user to give it up too easily because they are uncomfortable to use and will hurt. Some people will say, "Well, I am glad I didn't spend more and waste it on a given-up hobby!" but you're really just setting the person up for failure. I've ran into this with people using the cheap guitar packages and the action is too high, the frets are horrible and make it difficult to fret the strings and make them not buzz (fortunately not an issue on an orchestra instrument, but will still be difficult to hold down), the strings are going to be rough, and they're just cheap components overall. The quality of the wood in an acoustic instrument is going to be your biggest factor of the quality of sound generated, as it is the resonance within the body of the instrument and bouncing off the wood that gives you the sound. At the price, it would be great to use a decoration though or to make some sort of art piece.

TL;DR - if you REALLY want to learn (or have a child learn) an instrument and not give up, don't cheap out on it. A good instrument will hold their value pretty well as long as you take care of the instrument.

Surely for anyone serious, this is a garbage instrument.

I don't want to get into a pissing match over a cheap Chinese Violin, but….

I can't vouch for this one, reviews seem low …in the 3's

I did buy this one for my 9 year olds school band: https://a.co/d/cgGm07s

It's slightly better rated but twice this one's price. Its reviews seem mostly positive. You have to understand what you're buying. It's not a hand crafted European instrument. It's cheap and it can play in tune. One of the reviews for the one I bought was from a violinist that said they had an expensive one for performances for daily beating and practice they used the cheap one. It's fine for technique and for kids that are not prodigies.

My daughter's band class suggested renting for $30/month from a local musical instrument store. Others did that. My daughter's teacher said her cheap Chinese one was one of the best in the class. It's held up well for 3 years of a kid's abuse.

Legitimately cheap and crappy.
Beginner violins run several hundreds of dollars. If you aren't paying $300-$500 on your first violin then you are buying a piece of garbage.

It's a "Violin shaped object". The violin my daughter plays right now is $1k and is considered a beginners instrument. This one will make sound, and bears resemblance to a violin, but I'd go to an actual shop that specializes in them, most will let you pay by the month and upgrade at any time.

Here's to a cultured and refined SD. Idk if this is good deal or not but previously looking for sons viola , the used market on E Bae is a lot more reasonable than anticipated.

I like this deal tho, send me a free one and I will give glowy review

it might be slightly easier than starting from nothing, but they're quite different. No frets. And bow technique is a large part of it.

Very reasonable. You won't be thrilled with it, but instruments like these are more than good enough to learn on.

Modern musical instrument manufacturing is very nearly a miracle.

How well would this hold up in the event that the Devil goes down to Georgia, looking for a soul to steal?

Instruments are always like this. I don't know specifically about this one, but there is a lot of garbage and there is a lot of great instruments that compete very well for their low price point. I do guitars and this debate never ends. I'm happy with my Firefly, Leo Jaymz, and other decent budget Chinese made guitars because they are actually good. You don't need to spend $5K plus on a Gibson or Fender. You can, and they are "usually" good at that price. I say usually because they do also have duds. One of my front page deals were Diamond guitars that were Chinese made and amazing for the price. I don't play violin, but I have a daughter hinting at it. So I've barely started looking. Maybe this is good enough to start with. Maybe not. The blanket statements though made by snobs still are hilarious.
