I got lucky with the 24TB Seagates from B&H Photo in January of this year being Exos for $280 each. However, I would have rather waited for these to get the extra 4TB of storage.

As other have said, these are likely binned EXOS drives that became Barracudas. They're loud and make lot of clicking noise on spin up, but otherwise they're fairly fast and run fairly cool once removed from their enclosure. If you plan to do heavy writing in the enclosure, point a fan at these since they'll get stupid hot at over 55C/131F due to the poor ventilation of the case.

Also if anyone is looking to shuck these, you can use this video guide to help get the hard drive out without damaging the enclosure.

I bought 5 of these last month from BB with a mfg dates around dec 24ish 2024. All said Barracuda on label but also had laser warning. So IDK

EXOS or not?

And looks like a lot of the other capacities (like 24TB at $249) also seem cost effective.. are any of those mostly guaranteed Exos ?

Most reports indicate these are Barracudas. But that those are just binned Exos. It's hard to know why they were binned as Barracudas but the basic hardware is the same. They likely just scored lower on some quality controls.

Last confirmed Exos on these was 18TB. Higher capacities are hit and miss (mostly miss from what I've read). Waiting to shuck these for my NAS but want Exos for the uptime.

Anything over 20tb is a barracuda unless its old stock and then only the 20tb model. Everything else about it will not be EXOS. Performance from these is fine, maybe a little hotter than exos but no one knows how long they will run in a NAS yet really but the specs indicate they wouldnt last much past the warranty period if used fully 24/7

Wait, is there a such thing as a "USB-C Type-A cable"? The connector on the case is clearly not USB-C, rather the traditional connector for external hard drives. Google also has no idea what is USB-C Type-A.

one is C and one side is A, kinda stupid but is a thing. Not technically what this uses though and a misprint I on the specs.

As the comment you're quoting states, the pictures of the hard drive clearly show that it does not use USB-C; it's a USB 3 micro-B connector. So it doesn't make any sense for them to include a cable that's USB-C on one end and USB-A on the other.

And why is a USB-A to C cable "kinda stupid"? I have several sitting in a drawer next to me.

"USB-C Type-A cable" is ambiguous at best. Someone might write this when they mean a USB-C to USB-A cable as another commenter wrote, but that doesn't make sense for this hard drive. So I think it's just a typo or a marketer not knowing enough about what they're writing.

In the last deal someone mentioned that seagate stopped allowing coupons to be applied to already discounted products. It used to work before the last deal.
