I post this every time this deal shows up. Hope it helps someone:

Whenever a deal like this is posted, there are loads of commenters saying things like "there are much cheaper magnatile knock-offs, so why spend the money on name brands? Bad deal, etc."

I would add to the conversation that magnet safety is a big concern for many parents (myself included). While there is a VERY high chance that any of the knockoffs would be fine, there is always a chance that a broken piece and a swallowed magnet can cause major issues and a hospital trip. So what is the difference-maker? Metal rivets.

In short, there are hundreds of magnetic tile brands, but only a handful are what I would consider the main competitors (Magna-tiles, Connectix, Picasso, MagFormers, PlayMags, etc). With that said, only three (Magnatiles, Connectix, and PlayMags) have metal rivets that hold the pieces together. Of course, a hammer could crack any of these brands, riveted or not, so most toddler play will be totally fine, but personally, any tiles that come into our house need to have metal rivets. Playmags is the best value of those three brands, which is why we have been using them. If there are cool, unique sets that my kids are interested in (marble run, race track, zoo animals, etc.), we have no problem springing for the pricier Magna-tiles.

I'm sure there are more competitors with rivets and more will enter the market, but I'm just sharing to inform others.

Sorry for oversharing, but I dove deep into this toy a while back before investing in a few sets, and those were my findings. I'll likely share this on every one of these deals I see. Wishing nothing but the safest for all your little ones!

In summary, metal rivets are worth the upcharge, and this Playmags brand is one of the "main competitors" that is very cost-effective. It's also worth noting that this "100-pack" is actually 82. My initial purchase into the magnetic tile world was two of these packs. One is enough, but it limits what you can make. About $60 for 164 magnetic tiles with metal rivets is a great deal. Hope this brings your kids as much happiness as it brings mine!

Strongest magnets of all the brands AND they are riveted.

This is a winner.

How does this compare to the OG magna-tiles brand?

My 18 month old loves megablocks and loved these at a friend's house. I've been waiting on a good deal on these over the cheaper knockoffs. I've read playmags are the best magnets AND rivetted AND also seem to be compatible with magnatiles (and Picasso and Connetix). Bought an extra set for a cousin too so promo code works on more than 1.

Based on my research, they're very comparable. Playmags have stronger magnets but magnatiles have been around a lot longer so have a longer track record for durability. They're compatible with each other so Playmags as the cheaper option seem to be likely just as good. Also saw that Playmags have more unique shapes. Both seem to work fine but I haven't directly compared them next to each other.

Bought this set a month ago. Really high quality. I might buy it again to double the size of the structures we can make

Are you using Amazon's mobile app? I had trouble at first, too. I was entering promo code then hitting enter on the keyboard. This was not submitting the promo code. If you are in the same boat as me, enter the promo code then hit the arrow icon that is in the textbox instead of hitting enter.

Bought these last time for when our 3-year old grandson comes over. He loves them and immediately made a tower almost as tall as himself.

Strong magnets and seem to be solidly made. Also not difficult to get them to fit back in the box when putting them away.

If one set is fun, two sets will be "funner"! Buying a second set.

As can be seen from the SD price history chart, like many products on Amazon where the price drops... then goes up but gets discounted back down to near or the same price with a promo code, this is like that.

I had this item in my "Save for later" cart at Amazon. The change list showed the price had recently changed from $29.99 (without a code) to $39.99 before the promo code on this deal, bringing it to $28. So two bucks off. Better than nothing I suppose.
