Incorrect. I have a 2TB Samsung 990 Plus connected with TB4 via OWC external enclosure and this external drive reads and writes FASTER than the 256GB internal drive in my Mac Mini M4.

Easier than ever to workaround. If you don't want to at this price plenty of less efficient or upgrade paths.

Aren't reliable? Why? For the extra $200  is asking, you can have a very fast SSD in a very fast Thunderbolt case.

There are work arounds but you lose speed when using an external ssd compared to internal one. Plus external ones aren't as reliable.

Like 10x faster than a SATA III ssd, you probably need to update your thinking on the matter. Like there's nothing you can do that makes an ok Thunderbolt 4 NVME drive seem mediocre or slow.

Enterprises prefer that the internal drive of a desktop computer only store the OS and applications. Makes it easier to swap out the hardware without the user losing data.

Wondering if the M4 Pro 12 Core/24GB/512GB/16-Corr GPU worth at $1099.99/-? Or this gets you into Mac Studio category?

If you can get that model at that price I'd say that's pretty good.

That's relative. I'm typing from this exact 256 GB model purchased on this same priced deal from a few weeks ago. Walked out the door for $466.99. I have 1 TB of OneDrive and GoogleDrive space available. No need for more local storage.

External storage is good and you can replace the internal SSD if you want to.

I wish microcenter ships. They are about 1+1/2 hours away from me.

Just did it. Online agent. Took me longer to remember my password. Just have the microcenter link available. It is on their list of approved price matches.

They will. I did it back in March near when this first became available @ $450. Amazing value for the money. This will last a lot of people 5-10 years. Tons of performance headroom for your average joe, and it's insanely efficient with an average 'real world idle' power consumption around 2-4W - a tiny fraction of what a typical desktop PC takes (~50-150W idle).

256GB SSD isn't great, but like others have said, it's easy to add a fast NVMe external. Additionally, the internal drives are physically replaceable. You can't just swap in any NVMe, but there are 'aftermarket' options available with 1-2TB for <$300.
