I like the idea of this, but it looks like most people complain that the blade doesn't stay sharp for long and/or breaks after a short period of time. It's also somehow still cutting people, but this is more than likely OE than an inherit design flaw.

I hadn't even heard of a ceramic safety blade like this before, and after looking around a bit, I think this one may be a better option [amazon.com].

Seems to do the same job, costs less, is spring-loaded to avoid cutting yourself if you toss it in a bag, and has a replaceable blade. The replacement blades are stupid expensive for some reason ($20 for a 3 pack), but since it's removable, you can at least flip the included blade around and use the other side.

They don't work that well on plastic blister packs

It's a P.O.S. It's worth about $0.50-1 max.

My wife got a couple of these free with another purchase. Packing tape gives them a run for their money

This thing is super handy. We've had ours for a couple of years and no problem with the blade dulling despite using it tons of times. Much more convenient and safe than using scissors or box cutter.

These work.

But it is one of those. I won't pay for this thing. But give it to me for free. No problem kind of items.

Same here. Came out to $3.85 shipped. I wonder if it's TSA friendly for carry-on luggage.

does anyone else remember the days when Amazon used to send these out for free sometimes? I have probably half a dozen of them from a decade ago or more. they used to randomly appear in boxes from Amazon.

This is my go to amazon opener. It's also handy in that it's TSA safe.

I love your suggested Wescott cutter with the auto-retract ceramic, but when I went to buy it, quickly realized that ridiculous paternalistic restrictions won't allow it to be shipped to California. Is it the spring loaded feature? Too much like a switchblade? LOL. Who knows?

Crime, drug zombies and lawlessness abound, but (just to save all you CA residents some time) we apparently can't be trusted with safety box openers. Full razor utility blades are fine though. Go figure.

A few bucks more but has a longer blade that's refillable.

Just an FYI and could be YMMV..My local Walmart has price matched the same item/price for local pickup.
