I'm confused. What is the purpose of this box? Is it for security? If the delivery person can't lock and unlock it then is just a box on your porch. If you put a lock on it, other than envelopes, how does the delivery person put deliveries in it?

I'd say the main purpose is for the container so porch pirates are less likely to see/run up on your porch to quickly grab a package.
But I know some people in my local Facebook groups sell items & leave them in containers on their porches & give people a couple week timeframe for pickup. I guess this could also let them lock it up at night.

I need this to protect my Amazon package from storms. It has happened several times when all family members were at work, and a scattered thunderstorm soaked the cardboard box and damaged the shipment.
When my dog Jax was alive, (Australian Cattle Dog- very destructive breed!),this would have been a god send because he would literally destroy anything left in the yard. LOL

could bolt it down to the porch or mount it to the post, and put a smart lock on it somehow. The question is would the delivery person go through the trouble to open and close the closet properly, or just yeet the package on the porch as usual?

Its a plastic pos that most porch pirates probably wont touch. The sad thing is that most delivery drivers probably wont either. Amazon, UPS, Fedex, even the substitute postal service wont touch mine despite explicit delivery instructions on each of my accounts and 24 hour video surveilance. Mine is literally next to the door with a sign and they just throw it on the porch or leave it in the driveway. No amount of complaints seems to help with any of these services.
What this box and camera footage will buy you credibility when you make your package claim.

put a color sign that says deliveries here with the various logos like ups and Amazon. they use mine a lot more after I did it.

That's all this is really for. keeping it in a designated area out of rain. anything more is a bonus.
