I have 175,000 point offer from AMEX. Is that the best offer you can usually get?

does it still make sense to get the gold card first and then go to the platinum to maximize free points?

if somebody cares enough to do the gold first how long do you have to wait before you can get the platinum?
I'm planning to get the Gold first, then the Platinum, to get both sign up bonuses. If you get the Platinum first, you can't get the Gold bonus.

This is what I keep hearing conflicting information about. There appears to be people on Reddit that have successfully done it both ways. There are also appears to be some chance of penalty going gold first. Like you may not get the platinum offer anymore.

Do you have a citation for this?

AFAIK no first party Amex card ever locked you out of a different class of card by virtue of having it first---- SUBs for Amex tend to be one per "lifetime" for each card, unconnected to SUBs for different cards.... (and even that can be gotten around via either NLL offers or simply waiting a number of years as they don't really mean lifetime-- I've had a gold at least twice and multiple platinums for example)

I have downgraded to green. If I upgrade to platinum in Dec I guess I can advantage of this year and next year credits for platinum and only partially pay the fee for remaider of my annual fee?

Whats the minimum spend to get these bonuses on gold and then platinum? What are the annual fees?

You'll be able to double dip the annual credits, yeah.... Note when one downgrades Amex will sometimes have offers available to upgrade back that are like smaller signup bonuses- so you might keep an eye out for that as they can sometimes be good enough it's worth upgrading sooner than planned.

Curious why you downgraded to green though, it's only $175 less AF than gold, and you're giving up not only 1x higher earn on restaurants, but 3x higher at supermarkets, AND $100/year in Resy credits, $120 in Uber credits, and $120/yr in grubhub/some other dining credits (plus a few other more specific to use ones like $84/yr at Dunkin and $100/yr for The Hotel Collection).... Green seems the least worthwhile Amex charge card to actually hold.

AFs are $325 for gold and (as of just now, used to be $200 less) $895 for Platinum

Min spend and bonuses are highly YMMV depending when you apply, how you apply, etc... one floating around presently for example on the Plat is 175k points for $8000 spend.

Very underwhelming update. I may downgrade my card. Have no use for Oura or Lululemon and there are 0 resy restaurants in my entire state.

Well damn, I had no idea there was a hotel collection benefit on the gold and I've been a member since 2022.

Also I think the annual fee on the Gold was $250 before the hike to 325.

EDIT* Man you guys weren't kidding, it's all just the pricey hotels for the hotel collection... LOL So that's as good as not having the credit.

As I mentioned earlier, check via the app, it seems to show a ton more than the website search is showing right now.

What state are you in? Resy has like 20,000 restaurants in its system.

As to Lululemon it's not great given their pricing, but assuming you wear clothing at all you ought be able to find at least one overpriced thing per quarter to get essentially for free...

So it kinda works out like Saks, where I get a thing I'd normally have paid like 20ish bucks for for free even though Amex is "paying" them $50 for it.

Us. Resy credit, You Tube Premium, Uber Eats and Uber One all positive for me.
I can use NYT credit if they give me an another discount once my $ 4.99 month promo ends.
The Oura credit. Not for monthly membership but for the hardware which is about $ 400. That appeals to me. Won't have to sleep with my Apple Watch all night.

No longer fly so the airline credit and hotels are not for me.
When you throw in 175,000 points for a new membership, that works.

On the line. Leaning YES.

I'm still seeing "as high 175K points" on my referral link, but obviously YMMV!
