Just a heads up - if you use flavorings this will eventually clog irreparably. It has a design flaw. You can delay the clogging by occasionally running vinegar through the system (put vinegar in the tank and fill an old pod with vinegar). The newer "max" model doesn't have this problem but it costs a little more.

is this the backfill issue?

Yes, it is problematic and yes, Ninja will not fix the flaw, but it is not "irreparable". You can clean the blocked tube manually or install a hack option (to prevent backflow). Yes, you should not have to deal with this at all, but it is not "irreparable"

Well, the first one I got as a gift. It lasted 3 months before no amount of cleaning would fix it. Ninja accepted my warranty claim and sent me another. That lasted about 6 months until no amount of cleaning would fix it, but then Ninja told me one freebie was enough and to pound sand. I took that thing completely apart to clean before I gave up and trashed it. My experience is by no means unique and I'm just trying to save people the time/headache by just getting the Max instead. My Max is almost a year old now with no problems and I've never had to clean it a single time.

I've been using one for a year. None of the flavor cartridges tasted good to me, so I run without a cartridge and put a splash of fruit juice in the glass after.
I got a hose from Amazon and a 5lb tank. I get the tank refilled at a local place every 4 months or so.
I use it every day and I'm happy with it

You can but why would you get this then? Much cheaper to get a soda stream.
