This has happened to be before with plenty of garmins. Fully reset that watch. Attach it to a PC, delete EVERYTHING that you can see in windows explorer. Then do a factory reset on watch. Set it up again and I guarantee your battery will be back to normal.

Epix has been discontinued, FWIW, so it may end of life sooner than a Fenix or other line.

so have the Fenix 7s and older. still a good watch that'll last for years. I bought the 51mm version of this for $429 a month ago.

as a runner, i tried to upgrade from my FR 255 to this.. and found that while there were more features and all that, it was so much bigger, bulkier, and heavier, that i ended up returning it.

so just be aware

sure it'll last but garmin will likely stop adding features to it, unlike the forerunner and fenix line

Battery on my 955 has taken a nosedive recently and I got the same $500 Epix offer from Garmin a couple of weeks ago but this was my concern. Not a dealbreaker as I'm really debating if it's worth buying another watch when this one works but needs a charge 2-3x week now.
I second the factory reset, my Instinct took a distinct battery drain pretty quick. Did some factory resets and back to normal.

I purchased this watch on eBay refurbished in August 2025, for $389.99. I've always had disappointing experiences with smart watches before this, particularly with battery life. This Garmin watch is pretty great. Batter lasts about 10 days for me. I would wait out a better deal though.

Garmin is following apple's footsteps.
Latest watch is around 2k plus they recently introduced paid subscription.
They're literally digging their own grave because there're cheaper and good options too.
P.S been using garmin watches for a decade and since the stopped new features for 7x fenix , its my last garmin watch.

Serious question: what is the advantage of something like this for an ultra runner vs Apple Watch? I've started training for ultras and love my Apple Watch stats, but the battery dies after 10-15 miles of trail running. I was thinking of getting the Apple Watch Ultra but I notice a lot of older runners using Garmins.

-Generally more accurate gps (heart rate is ok, not as good as a chest strap)

-much longer battery life, my FR255 lasts 1 week between charges, I run 2-3x per week 1hr each. When I had the epix gen 2 sapphire, it was just over 10 days between each charge. For comparison, my Samsung needs to be charged every 2-3 days, 1hr of running uses about 10% so if I run 3x per week, I need to charge it every other day. Similar to Apple

I have the Epix 2 and it's the best golf watch around.

However, I am leery of this company - this was an 800-1000 dollar watch a little over a year ago, and they couldn't even be bothered to add easy activity updates like Rucking, which they added to other watches. They bailed on updates for it.

I've got the 51 mm, coming from using both an Apple watch ultra and Galaxy watch ultra in the last couple of years.

I absolutely love this watch.
