I think the bare tool one is brushless, but this cheaper one is just cordless.

Yes. If you work in the dark at night after work like I do, you will see the sparks from the brushes

I use all 3. The brushless ones have the most power, so I use that for grout, flooring.

The cordless one is less powerful so I use it at places where I can't run a cord.

The $20 ones from Walmart (some Walmarts clear them out for $5 once a year and I swoop them up then - just simpler than hanging out at thrift shops and garage sales) are for all general purpose use where running a cord isn't an issue like faucets, decking, stucco work
