The Moto G Power 2024 is a solid budget 5G phone, with praise for its snappy performance, decent camera, bigger battery, improved screen, RAM, and wireless charging over the 2023 model. It also has a headphone jack and FM radio, and once unlocked it can be used on other carriers with physical SIM or eSIM support. The main catch is the Tracfone service setup, since the included 1.5GB for a year is too little for heavier use and top ups cost $10 for 3GB. Unlock timing is also a point to watch, with reports pointing to about 60 days of active service.

If you say so, I haven't bothered to ask T-Mobile.
I didn't bother to ask either, when it came my turn to sign up they sent me instructions (install ESim, or physical SIM) that won't work if I don't want to switch to T-Mobile. You do you, and keep furiously clicking the thumbs down even though you're wrong, maybe it will help you feel better.

Decent back-up phone with p-SIM and e-SIM available once unlocked. Will immediately update to android 15, but most likely that's it.

my dad is a very light data user. home-bound pretty much all day. But I still think 1.5 GB is too little for the entire year for his occasional grocery shopping trips outside. The phone is a good one though. Very tempting...
You can just top it up after you run out of data. Its $10 for every 3Gb you use.

It unlocks 60 days after you activate it? When is the latest you can activate it? My current plan with another carrier has another 5 months left

Generally speaking it is best to activate the phone within the return period just in case the plan does not show up. Now, it has never happened to me and on a couple of occasions I waited nearly a year before I activated a cheap phone/plan. But it seems to happen regularly, particularly during the days before Verizon acquired it, based what I've read on the forums.

I will say this. It's a pretty good deal if you need the phone right now, but this is a depreciating asset and keeping it in a drawer for 6 months is unlikely to be a smart move.

Got this for my teenagers. Great phone. Once they used up all the Tracfone minutes, and it was unlocked. We switched them to Visible. $19 a month Unlimited.. Visible uses the Verizon network. They love it.

Not entirely accurate; I've on multiple occasions activated (harvested plan), re-activated my original phone (on the harvested plan), and the phones are still unlock eligible 2 months later.

So, while yes, you have to maintain 2 months of service, in my experience it doesn't actually have to be on the original device.
"re-activated my original phone (on the harvested plan)"

How does this work?
