No it's has not been around for 20 years and no it's not normal. It takes 20 minutes to make rice. Learn and it will taste much better and it will cost a small fraction of the price. Not slick at all.

I'm seeing $24.84 before 15% off, not $11.64.

My dad bought these when I was 18 and was lifting and I'm about to be 36 now, damn near 20. My free time is worth $100 an hour.

It's not like you're standing there cooking for 20 minutes. A rice cooker can make it all on its own. Just wash and add enough water, it takes 1 minute.

I keep a few on hand for when the rest of my family's dinner is finished cooking and I realize that I forgot the rice. 90 seconds and we're good. Otherwise I default to normal rice. The jasmine is actually pretty tasty, closer to normal rice than the others.
