Reviews are kind of rough. I have an old Orbii that's been running flawlessly for years, always thinking of upgrading, but I don't think this will be it.

I have to say Deco is the way to go. I thought even the nest wifi pro would be great, and then I realized I can't even get it to connect anything with 2.4

Find comments suggesting to go Deco over this to be interesting. We have Deco now and had Orbi previously. Almost every week we have some of our many devices drop or have trouble connecting to our Deco system. Large home covered by 1 router and 3 satellites. Tried adjusting all available settings, prioritizing devices, etc with little success. My experience so far (1+ years) has me missing how well our previous Orbi system worked.

My Orbi crapped out last month. Stuck in reboot. Can't factory reset either. Before that, it worked great

That's a bummer. If you like to tinker there are a few things you can try besides factory reset which I assume you have attempted:

I only recommend decos with triband when they are refurbished/clearance. I got deco x68 3 pack from tplink ebay for 180 with warranty. They are meh but get the job done. Then I found the x5700 for 109 for a 2pack. And they function more like orbi with their better specs. I comment on alot of the deco wifi 6e post. I always tell ppl deco cuts corners in the low spec wifi 6e version. they give u the lowest 5ghz specs to give u 6ghz and keep cost down. that unless you are going to use 6ghz band, blindly relying on 6ghz to be a dedicated backhaul is not really future proofing for when u get 6ghz devices. same goes for low end deco. hardwire or prepare to suffer.

With that being said the specs on this orbi are weird. The client band is only 2x2 256 qam for 960 max. The backhaul is assume is 4x4 for 2400mbps as there is no mention of 160mhz. The standard even on weak decos is 2x2 1024 qam for max of 1200mbps. So I can see these being weaker for clients in general.

Have had the orbi in two different flavors which is pretty solid in device connectivity. As a router and gateway it sucks.. paywall restricted basic features. I tried a deco in between two orbis and it sucked. So many devices were not able to connect at all. Some could only connect via guest network rendering them useless as they were essentially on different vlan with no cross talk to devices on regular home ssid. Happened mostly to older iot type devices.
