Is this worth $70 more compared to the usual $99 280-piece set on sale? Looking at it quickly it appears this set has more sockets, more wrenches, a few more adapters, a lot less junk screwdriver bits?

If I was shopping for one of these sets I'd save the 70$ and buy a ratcheting wrench set! I also noticed Lowe's has a 300pc set 100$ also.

The $100 set is also missing spark plug sockets and the largest socket is 19mm. The more expensive set has one 1 1/16inch (27mm) socket and then 22mm on down. Most of the other extra stuff in the bigger set is pretty redundant. 12 point sockets are entirely pointless in my opinion. Having the same socket in 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 is rarely needed. The deep sockets can be handy, but the smaller set has deep sockets for the most common sizes.

Overall, I don't think you can go wrong either way. If I was choosing between these two sets today, I would go for the $170 one. The convenience of having every size I might need is worth it to me.

I was debating between the two and ended up with this one because it had more sockets and less junk. Another plus is you can pull the whole tray out and carry it to where you need it instead of having to go back and forth for other sockets.

The most complete and best equipped tool set when compared on a bit and socket basis remains the Harbor Freight 301-pc mechanics set.

12 point sockets aren't entirely pointless. I can think of at least a dozen.

The kobalt set has nearly half the sockets.
